Coming up the 28th through the July 10th or so, was just wondering what stage the lakes are in. water temps, 65ish? getting into mainly summer patterns? Was up over memorial day and couldnt believe how far behind everything was. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

My experience from Big Cormorant last Saturday was that smaller fish were up shallow (8'-10') and the larger fish (females) were much deeper (25'-32'). Surprisingly, the shallower bite wanted a lindy rig w/ shiner and the deeper fish a spinner w/ crawler/shiner. For me it was a tough bite with fish spread all over the place. It's almost like they're still transitioning from post-spawn or something. Water temps were 61-63 deg. The warmer lakes are probably being fished differently. Hopefully, other guys/gals can chime in...I'm curious as to what they're seeing.

I think I mentioned on another post the big females were on the hunt a week or so ago on a different lake. In a couple hours I literally couldn't keep 23"-26" off the hook. Not a bad problem though. To those fish post-spawn was ancient history. We've had good, stable weather here for a good week or so with a lot of penetrating sunshine. I imagine fish will be is the swing of summer patterns on virtually all lakes in the time slot you're fishing the area.

I"d have to think that they are in their early summer patterns , get into the deepest weed edges you can find.

IMO the walleye fishing right now is just plain awesome. One of the best years I have ever had. Lindy riggin leeches and crawlers with a plain red hook and a 4-5 foot snell is really working for me. Big Detroit, Sallie, Lida are all producing along the weedlines. If the pannies drive you nuts, move a little deeper and bingo the fish are there. Good Luck!!!!!

I had the same problem with the relentless rock bass. I found the shallow eyes I caught weren't mixed in with the bass; and the deeper eyes weren't either. Hmmm... That could simply be due to my lack of patience with rock bass on BC and Detroit. I don't spend too much time in an area where they are thick.
Hit Big Detroit yesterday early evening for a couple hours. Walleyes seemed to be hanging in about 18'+ FOW. We were using spinners and picking up a few. I regret not switching to rigs and working them over. I think we would've put more fish in the boat.
Big Cormorant is on tap for me again this Tuesday evening after work...can't wait!

Fished Big C tonight. All boats on Big C should have a garbage disposal on them to recycle Rock Bass into chum.
Fished the weed edge at about 16-18 FOW, caught just 1 Walleye. at dark, we pulled some cranks in 8-9 FOW and caught another eye.
1 perch,1 sunny, 25 Rock Bass.
What a beautiful night. We finally had to quit due to the bugs.

Now that I think about, the day I was fishing BC all the rock bass I caught were in the main lake - I don't think I caught a single one in Pike Bay. I dropped the Aqua-Vu last time there to see what all the arcs on the graph were and didn't see many rock bass where I was seeing walleyes. I'm going to do whatever I can to avoid them tonight. We'll see how successful I am with that.
Anyone still having success with shiners??? Or, are those days over?

Returned from a week long vacation on Lida last week. We hit it right, the walleye and smallmouth fishing was great. Shiners were working best for our group with leeches being a close second. We were Lindy rigging in 18-22 FOW, guys next to us using slip bobbers doing really well also. The slot is frustrating if you want to keep fish but it has improved the fishing so much since it went in to place that it is really hard to complain about the slot. Last Wednesday my brother and I caught 20 walleyes: 2 were in the 15-17 inch range and the rest were 18-24 1/2". We have been fishing the lake the same week for years and haven't ever had a day like that. Thank you all for your tips before the trip it was truly a great week.

BC weekend..... Finally found some smallies on the southside, they were small but fun to catch. Was very quick getting them back in the water, seems like a resource not very common to the DL area ( except Lida ). I have a new idea for keeping rock bass off the line. LARGE shiners. Caught a few eyes in 25 feet of water. Tried fishing the "chop" today. Was more like a B&*^% smack for my 16 ft lund. Made it about ten minutes and had to get off before I lost the boat. Hoping to fish tomorrow depends on the wind. Shiners outfished leeches.

That depends....is your girlfriend in the picture? If so, by all means post it. Better if she's holding a big walz though.
