Hi Guys,

Looking at Purchasing a new Ranger 620T and I'm debating on the motor I need. Looking for some input if a 115HP is to small, kind of concerned about getting out of the hole with that motor.

I know, go big or go home but without going big I can spend money on electronics and still come in under what going big would cost me.

If anybody has owned this rig with both or either motor, please give me some input.

Thanks,

Al

HEy Al,
Ive got a 06 620T with a 115 optimax,I run a 20p high five hole shot is good and top end is around 40mph. I would not worry about being under powered but i believe the hull was meant for a 150. I also have a buddy with a 04 and a 115 yamaha and I can out run him no problem,I dont know what prop he is running though. If i get a new one its going to have a 150 opti wiht power steering. But the 115 does good.

I think you'll be ok with the 115. Bigger would be better, but you're at least just above the 75% of max hp rule of thumb for motor hp.

That said, I wouldn't short yourself on motot to spend more on electronics. Electronics come and go, but hopefully your boat and motor stick around for while.

I guess I'm amazed they would even consider putting a 115 on a 620! Actually I'm in shock!!!!

I would think boat control in tough conditions and resale value would be enough to say no on this one!

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the input. I had heard that about the 115 Yamy. I saw two of the same rigs you have with that prop at Wave Wackers this year and I thought there must have been a reason behind it. The boat dealer I going to go with has three 620Ts, 2 with 115 Opti's/big tiller handle and 1 with 150 Yamaha. Both Opti's have the 5 blade props. Sounds like it is a must have if you go with that motor.

Thanks Again,

Al

Hi guys , a different boat but similar . I had a 2025 Pro-V tiller with a 115 4s Yammy and loved it . Definitely was not a speed demon , but with two big guys , a big dog , livewells and full gas tank [50 gals] it would do 37 mph on gps and jumped on plane really well . When I went to sell it , I had no problem , could have sold it many times. New owner loves it as well , just my .02 worth .

Rapid in Ham Lake. The two Mercury handles have the built in hydraulics, big tiller handle. The Yahama model has the Mertens setup. Nice rig.
