Has anybody been out fishing walleye's this week? I've been fishing the north end and not having much luck. I can't even mark many fish. Nothing deep. These fish must all be in the weeds.

I almost hate to tell you this, but we had a pretty good weekend last weekend. Over a 2 day span we caught 10 walleyes, including 2-21", 2-23", 1-24", 1-25.5" and 1-27". We released all of those 20"+. We caught them all around 28'-30'. I can't really tell where we caught them as they were pretty well spread out.

First off I'd like to thank ajr for his releasing of those larger fish. Way to go!! Been late with my reports as fortunately I've been on the water for the past couple of weeks. Came down on 6-28-08 from a couple of days up in the Nisswa area with the "Ol' Man"(Gull Lake fishing was decent) and went out early in the morning on 6-29-08.

I guess I consider myself fortunate as well as I found a "pod" of fish and had my limit by 8:30am. Marbleye, about 3.5 hrs before the time of your original posting of this message on 7-2-08 I received reports of the father in-law, brother in-law and nephew getting 9 (I think they kept 6??).

The evening of 7-2-08 had me back on the road to Alex. from home. This time with the company of a friend/neighbor of mine. We hit the water early in the morning and what a morning it was. By 8:30 we had 11 of the most perfect walleyes I've ever been involved with. 2-16" and the balance between 17.5 and 19.5". Would have went for the even dozen but the last one got the lines tangled up and my buddy had to get going back home (had an extra vehicle at the cabin that he could take home). Great day when you bring a buddy up and end up looking like Al Linder!! What luck. Had a big fish breakfast for everyone and sent my buddy down the road home.

Thought Friday morning would be more of the same. Not the case as things were a little slower. Did however get 3 keepers and 1-24.5" that went back. Quit fishing at 8:30 however as I was hooking up with some friends from Alex. to "chase that little white ball around".

Didn't get out on Sat. morning. Too much celebration on the 4th night and didn't feel like getting beat around by the waves on Sat. during the day.

Went out Sunday and found all bigger fish. Only got 3 but they were a 23.5, 24.5 and 26. All put back.

The move to the mid-lake structure is on or has happened I should say however fish are still on shoreline underwater points. I will say that I typically caught my fist fish at probably 5:00am and my last one no later then 9:00 on all occassions. Leeches were the bait of choice however I think a crawler would have worked as well. basically 20 - 24 fow was the depth of choice.

Man I'd like to peel back up this weekend but just don't think I can get it done. We'll see however, the week is young!!

Not a problem. Try to lead people the best I can. Obviously, as others are, I'm a little secretive on the exact spots as I played enough bumper boats with some individuals that could care less if your sitting on a spot (some of them are very small spots).

I'm headed up to Betsy Ross Resort for the week tomorrow am. First time on Ida. I'll be in a 16' Procraft running planer boards during the day. Fishing the breaklines and shallower during the evenings .... I'm going to try to sleep in a few days for a change. Looking forward to clear water and skies. I see Minnewaska is presenting some lake itch issues, anything to worry about on Ida?

Was on the lake last weekend. Things still have been not so good for my boat. Fished the flat on the north end of the lake and started to mark a lot of fish. I happen to bring my under water camera with. I couldn't believe the walleye's I found in 22'-29' of water. All I could manage was 1-16" fish. I bet I saw over 100 on the camera in 15 minutes. Those fish wouldn't bite on anything. Leeches, crawlers, jigs, bottom bouncers and spinners. The next morning I was right back out there and the walleyes were there again. This time I had Redtails and Lake shinners with me. Still no takers. These fish have lock jaw for some reason. I can figure it out. I'll try again in a couple of weeks.

Well, not going to be much help as jwink is already gone but there may be some "lake itch" issues in the bays (this may include spots in Little Ida). Best advice...get out there and enjoy the water! Just hit the shower for a quick rinse right afterwards. Hope you are having a great time on Ida. She's a great lake!!

No lake itch on the opposite side of the bay.
