Slow night, caught one pretty early, then nothing. Talked to just about everyone on the lake (not many on a Monday night) and most had the same luck. The one I caught was on a rapala (#7 black/silver)slow trolled about 25' down in 40' of water. At the end of the day there were some fish on the surface, so I trolled the same bait back to the ramp with only a big split shot and had one on, but lost him. Tried corn, crawlers, spinners, as did everyone else. Just didn't happen. Was a beautiful night though.

Anything new to report? St. Croix River fishing has slowed so much that I'm gonna try here again.

Hey, there's a report. That's pretty deep for active fish. Water temp must be prety high?
Gonna try to get out Sunday morning.

Anyone do any ice fishing on square? Can you take trout through out the winter?

Fishing was pretty good the first few weeks of the season last year. Season is closed now, reopens mid January.

Ive only fished lake trout through the ice, which are usually quite deep. Whats the best depths to try out on square? Are they hugging the bottom or usually suspended?

Most are taken in pretty shallow water, 6' - 15' or so. They can be anywhere in the water column. The water is so clear, the best tactic is sight fishing. Get it as dark as possible in your shack and keep an eye on your jig. When a fish grabs it...take him! They will seldom take a bobber down and if you watch a spring bobber, they're often gone before you can react.
Try small sunfish type jigs with waxies or eurolarva.
