Well we fished Sallie for about 13 hours on Sunday and did OK. We started the day off with a really nice 4lb walleye, followed by some smaller ones, a ton of 5lb + pike. To top the day off I tied into a 48"+ muskie. I eventually lost it when it did one last jump out of the net. I fought her for about 20 minutes on 10 lb test line with a florocarbon leader and lindy rig. She did several specatular jumps, many many long runs, and put up one heck of a great fight, but she won. Oh well, can't cry over spilt milk either so what the heck.
Over all it was a great day on the water with plenty of activity to keep us hoppin.

Remember, there are no musky in Sallie. It was simply an optical illusion! I hope to experience similar illusions over the 4th weekend.

I thought it was a Copter-cal illusion. I hate it when I imagine the couple of dozen or so ski's we manage to imagine each summer on Sallie by mistake or purpose. I am sure you know were to imagine them at but If I were to go and imagine them again around the 4th I would hang out about 300-400 yards due west of the cell tower.

Leaving Des Moines at 9am the 4th, so should be on the water by noon up there. Alway fun to chunk giant lures at the folks in the boat parade. Will post an update Friday night if we get on the eyes or some giants. Gotta get the kids on some crappie or gills to keep them occupied too. Got accused of being a bad dad on the last trip for making them cast bucktails under the full moon until midnight. Ha... it's this darn Musky Affective Disorder that I have been trying to shake off.

The flooding event down here was sobering. I spent many many hours flying various city leaders and disaster officials. Counted more than 1000 homes that had water up to the top of the roof and at least that many more with water partway up the walls.
Every business in the heart of downtown had water several feet deep. It was a mini Katrina...
Here are few cell phone shots I took over Cedar Rapids on June 11th.

Just hit Sallie tonight and had a fun time. We went through a ton of bait. Caught four eyes -- one of them over 5 pounds. Missed quite a few.

Caught a ton a BIG sunnies as well.

Great time.

leeches, Lindy w/ float -- 14-16 FOW.

Funny when you get a bigger one --

The little ones bite like a walleye -- tap-tap.

The bigger ones are smarter, or so it seems. They just grab on and hold for a long time and don;t move. Kinda interesting.

bugs were fine but got a little tough at about 9 p.m.

The bug hatch in the water -- not much evidence of that last night

`Dead -- cute.

Yeah, that was my first "local" eye over 17 inches this year.

It was a TON of fun.

BTW -- I caught a lot of NICE fish on Devils Lake.

I'LL BET EVEN A ROUGH FISHING DEADHEAD COULD CATCH ONE UP THERE! grin grin cool
