I am going to Winni for the first time Memorial weekend. I fish ML a lot, but this will be a fun chance to another great lake.

Any tips on bait preferences or fishing methods on Memorial? Maybe some links from past years tell the story too...but I can't seem to find much.

You should let us know where you are staying so we can give some ideas on locations to start with because I know spots on the east side but rarely fish the west side.

Yellow Dog, best advise I can give you is to locate the right debth of the fish. Usually they are on bars or dropoffs at a certain debth. Find how deep or shallow they are and you will find the fish with your choice of bait. I would suggest a jig and shiner or a lindy and leach.

memorial should be great fishing stay in the shallows with a 1/8 or 1/16 oz fireball with a shiner and you shouldnt have a problem

Thanks guys for the input. It's always nice to have a bit of a plan.

We found fish along the shoreline that was getting the most wind--no surprise there. But what was kind of a shocker was that most of the fish we caught were in 6 to 7 feet of water.

With the big waves we used the big motor to back troll. The fish didn't seem to mind. Met some great people on the water too.

My hat's off to Ben at Ben's Bait in Grand Rapids. He was a big help too.

Good luck the rest of the year!
