Trolled rapalas in 9 feet with my dad and wife from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and we boated 15 fish. 11 of the walleyes were 16 to 17 inches and 4 slot fish from 18 to 20 inches. Great day on the water. ( we forgot the camera today) We would have fished more but I had to go to work.

The thing that I find most interesting is the percentage of total caught that are right at the slot line(16 to 17 inches). I don't know what that means from a biological standpoint, but it sure bodes well for those looking for walleye fillets. The percentages that you caught run really close to what I experienced last spring(~25% slot fish). I hope the trend continues. Thanks for the information. I will be there two weeks from today and am really looking forward to getting back to the lake.

Yesterday didnt do too well until i found a hotspot, never got a thing on my rapala the whole weekend, had to still fish. Ended up Catching 8 walleyes and 3 perch yesterday, two 16 inch walleyes, four 14 inchers and a couple real small ones, none in the slot. Today got 3 walleyes, kept two 13.5 inchers and released a real small one and also got quite a surprise when i caught a 12 inch crappie out off of whiskey island in pike bay, never thought id see a crappie out of that area, then to top it off i ended up getting another one right about 12 inches an hour later, i didnt know there were crappies in pike bay, these were the first two ive ever caught on vermilion would post a picture but not sure how. confused. Id also like to say thanks to the guy who helped me pull my boat up on shore with his truck when it got all flooded on saturday and i couldnt move it.

vw, there's a how-to for posting pics stickied to the top of the photography and photo sharing board. It's pretty simple. Check it out! Would love to see those pics. The fishing/hunting picture policy also is sticked on that board.

Vermilion has plenty of crappies. They don't get talked about much, though.

Walleye bite was not good probably because of the weather and late spawn. That lake is going to be on fire next weekend through the beginning of June. I think everything is a couple weeks behind.

Just got back the Walleye bite wasn't as good as in the past but the fish were a lot bigger. Never had a problem getting the limit though. Got my biggest Walleye ever 30 3/4 inches(released). Will post a pic when I can.

Does anyone know about this new transporting of fish rules? We have to transport the fish bone with head and tail intact on lakes that have a size limit? Pretty nasty but had to do what we had to.

check the DNR online site...there has been clarification made regarding transportation of cleaned fish...the rules for walleyes have not changed...focus is on trout, etc...

2thepoint, I happened to catch a post you had last week about Raps with size, color and fishing techniques. At the time I thought we were headed to Trout Lake and did not pay a ton of attention to your info. We were detoured from Trout and ended up staying on Vermillion for the weekend. Upon arrival one of the campground regulars gave me some advice that pretty much mimicked what you had said about Raps. Fortunately I had a couple of Raps that were close to what both of you recommended and we did extremely well with them! I spent quite a bit of time learning what speeds to run at and how much line to use, but I have to admit it was the hot ticket for the weekend. With the wind the way it was this weekend, running Raps turned out to be the easiest way to fish the lake. Thanks for the info.

Was up fishing this weekend on the east end. Had some good luck Saturday...caught plenty of walleyes and jumbo perch. Perch came in about 20 fow and were dandies. Walleyes came anywhere from 6 fow to 30 fow (sorry not more specific but that's the truth). Seemed like a slow presentation was the best. The deeper walleyes bit minnows on lindy rigs or Griz Jigs with minnows...we actually achored in the wind (or tried to) and just fished over the side of the boat. Shallow walleyes took leeches and minnows under slip bobbers. A good mix of sizes on the walleyes...my buddy got the biggest at 25". We had a lot in the 14 - 17" range. Not many fish on rapalas...maybe a tad too cold yet..but I see others did well on them? Also fish shut off for us Sunday...maybe due to front or high pressure move in Saturday overnight?

Shut down for me sunday for awhile, just got 2 nice crappies and 1 walleye at first then tried some jigging instead of slip bobbering and started getting a fish every 5 minutes or so.

Wow...that's awesome vermilionwally...good for you. Good to know they did not shut down for everyone. Just goes to show when things get tough just stay persistent and it might pay off. Can't wait to get back to the Big V!!! Coming up the 4th of July for sure...but hopefully one weekend in between as well. Take care guys, FL Sniper

Fished in Pike Bay Sunday and caught 10 walleyes before a storm blew my boat off the lake. Only kept one at 15 but had others at 20, 18.5 and 18. All in 8 fow with jigs and minnows. Counted 42 boats around us. On Saturday we did catch one eye in 30 fow. Heard that they were either deep or shallow. Nowhere inbetween.
