I am not a fan of netting, but they are allowed to net by law and as it stands now, I can live with it. But that was a nother thread.
Anyone know if their angling limit goes toward thier allotment or angling allotment?
Mille lacs over the past ten years or so has gotten better, numbers and size wise than I have ever experienced out there. This all happened after the treaty lawsuit. Maybe it has actually helped the lake. If for some reason it does hurt the lake (I hope and think not), well it is only one lake in minnesota their are many more. We as minnesotans have a love for Mille lacs and we should, we don't have to jump to assumptions and chastise another culture to protect it. If we do our part the bands do their's the lake will be fine.

Nobody would advocate that (well, maybe a few people, not me though.) I have heard of this part of the treaty, and it may or may not be true. Times have changed, and at one time this could have been credible. I agree about focusing on worthwhile discussions, such as sex offenders and other heinous people.

Sometimes Im right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song

Makes no difference what group Im in

We are the same whatever we do
You love me you hate me you know me and then
You cant figure out the bag lm in

Hey administrators, are you really going to allow the advocation of shooting Native Americans?

I don't believe that was the point of his post and people get a little to PC'd all the time. I think the point (at least what I got out of it) was that there are a lot of old laws and/or treaties that don't make sense. You can look a lot up on the internet these days. For instanse, did you know that it is illegal to cross the border of WI and MN with a Duck on your head? Does that make any sense at all? Nope, but still on the books. Something that was written up 200 years ago should be able to go back and check over it. Back when it was written I think there was a lot more respect for the land and there were no power boats or gill nets. Add all that and there is a differance in my mind.

At what point do you stop making up for the past and just become one Nation? I've done nothing to any other people in my life time. But I continue to pay for what was done 200 years ago. I think it's dumb to fight amonst Americans cause that's what we all are. Just ban together and become one.

Like the 2nd amendment???? Maybe we should go back and look at that?

Here's my take, If we were to look back at history when these treaties were signed...I bet I was just a handful of tribe members actually netting fish and it was mostly done from shore or small boats or canoes and in the big picture very few fish were harvested...it was not like it is today where is has become a small commercial-like fishing operation...as time went on and we entered into the 20th century the traditon probably wasn't as prevalent...but they always had the right to do so...then when indian gaming became legal...many members had more money to spend on motorboats and commercial nets and decided they wanted to start a commercial fishery ala Red Lake...the state stepped in and said "no way"...hence the case goes to the U.S Supreme Court...so the dispute isn't about if their hunting and gathering rights were taken away (they never were)...the dispute is over the use of a gill net to accomplish the task...what started out as a few tribe members netting a few fish has blossomed into a small time commercial fishery and growing...i hope history doesn't pepeat itself ala Red Lake...

Hahaha!! another Tribal post! Really guys? I guess we know who public enemy #1 is. Good luck fellas with your struggles, I hope one day you guys can figure it out. I'm going to hijack this post for a minute and blame all the poor fishing here in Detroit Lakes on the North Dakotans, I'm writing a letter to my state rep to limit the number of licenses given to NoDaks. They don't pay state taxes to fill the lakes here so they should not have the right to fish here. Or maybe just cut their bag limit to 2 fish, then Minnesotans can have more for their bag limits... Sounds ridiculous but is relevant to the post, if you have a major problem with tribal bag limits then you should feel the same about out of state bag limits.

See you guys next spring when all this is brought up again.

BID2, You bring up something that I have thought of also (timing is everything), When the 2nd amendment was added, I don't think the forefathers had any idea there would ever be such a thing as semi-automatic weapons. I suppose there should be reconsideration to the 2nd amendment then if some are going to use the, "The times have changed" approach to "modern day" fish gathering by the Natives.

And as far as the claim about more than 3 Indians being a war party being part of some "treaty". I would like to see the treaty that says that. I was told sarcasm had to stay out of the conversation. I just figured this kind talk should also. I think it is best to at least try to back up these claims before you make such a statement.

Anyone know if their angling limit goes toward their allotment or angling allotment?

The Bag limit they have - 10 fish per day with no size restrictions, no possession limit does not go against their netting quota. Supposedly they have 2 members that are responsible for determining how many fish they harvest through angling.

Lucky, I wasn't advocating the taking of ANY life, i was merely posting what I had heard from several sources. I didn't mean to offend anyone and if I did, I apologize

Bass-no apology necessary. It just bothers me a bit because many of the post here are supported only by hear say. If people would spend as much time researching outlandish claims as they do repeating what someone said or heard at the coffee shop or bait shop or local watering hole, none of this would get as far as it does.
The following paragraph is from the posting rules for this forum.

All debate must be at least civil and generally positive in nature. Discussion should be moving issues in a constructive direction. Wild accusations, rants or unsupported statements of supposed fact are not welcome
