I was thinking of buying a wheel house to use year round . Has anyone bought a wheel house from Soderbloom's and if so I would like feedback good and bad. What i would like to buy is a house at least 16x8 I am considering going as long as 18-20' in lenghth. I would like a ramp door on the back for my outlander xt atv. Would I be foolish to have one built with tandem axels with electric brakes if I went to a 18 or 20' lenghth? I see he uses aluminum for the frame and trailer. Any input would be appreciated!

If you make it that long then you are going to want it a tandem with brakes. DOT laws states that any trailer 3000# GVW has to have trailer brakes. Besides, could you imagine what your brakes would be like trying to stop it?

Call Jay and ask him for reference numbers from guys who have purchased them. From talking with several guys in my area who own them I havent heard any complaints.
I would also go tandom with breaks. I think in those sizes its a must.

I talked to Jay a few weeks ago. He is building docks right now so it could be a couple months before he builds wheel houses. It looks like they build quality houses for the money compared to ice castle and the lodge. I plan on finishing the inside myself, what I like about Jay's houses are they look strong and are lite at the same time. Thanks for your input Northlander!

Anybody have any thoughts on the Aluminum, and possible salt corrosion, or is the Alloy used, more resistant???

Other than that possibility, Aluminum would sure be the way to go...

All metals corode and with that being said I was planning on going underneath the fish house and coating all exposed aluminum with a roll on rustproof or else spraying it on. Even a steel frame would have the same problem.

30-40 below (or worse even) on rough winter roads and even rougher ice roads. Not gonna catch me trusting aluminum.
