Made it out from 3-7pm today. I ended up with 11 smallies, 6 largemouth, 1 sauger and 1 white crappie. I was fishing backwaters throwing spinnerbaits, crankbaits and pitchin plastics. The spinnerbait was by far the best option today. Fish were in and around laydowns in 2-5ft. Water temp was 60 in the backwaters and about 57 main channel.

Here is a pic of my best smallie 17incher

Pic of a 22in sauger wich is a personal best for me

Let me know if I'm wrong.. but.. why are you throwing spinnerbaits and cranks in the backwaters? Isn't bass opener still around the corner yet?

If so.... and after so many smallies and largemouths being caught from this presentation.. it would seem like you were targeting these out of season fish.

I don't know.. since I am kind of new to this but I've heard from others, that you shouldn't/can't be doing this kind of fishing yet.

I am seeing this quite often when I am out crappie fishing even just after ice out. Should I be using the TIP line in the future?

Pool 2 is open for large and smallmouth bass fishing, catch and release only. You can keep white bass if you like though.

First of all you had better know the rules and regs of areas before you start spouting off. Pool 2 is open YEAR round for all gamefish.

Anyways I was out with my dad today from 830 until 130 and we ended up with 14 smallies and 12 largies, as well as 2 small pike. Caught most off them in the same area as yesterday, but we caught more fish on plastics tiday and the size was a little smaller as well. Biggest one was a 17in largemouth. my dad also almost landed what looked to be about a 9 in bluegill on a gulp minnow and jighead but it came off boat side. The current in the main channel is still roaring at about 40,000 cfs so I wasnt really able to fish much for walleyes, but we did hit some spots with no luck.

Yeah... get em' newby... that is, of course, on the lakes... not in pool 2, let 'em fish newbz, just... let... them.. fishhhhh!

... and in newbys defense, he did start off the post by saying "correct me if I'm wrong", and it seems like he was only asking...

so settle down, you guys are so angry at a new guy... let it be... even if he is a rat.

Can someone tell me if its possible to run Grey Cloud Channel from the upstream end? Can you get a bass boat under the bridge at Grey Cloud Island Drive South??

Thanks in advance

I've been wanting to fish down in that area for awhile, I live by the Ford dam and fish that area frequently. Can anyone recommend a boat ramp in the area? Is there a decent ramp in the Spring Lake Park reserve? Thanks!

We were down there last weekend. We were in an 18ft aluminum deep v boat with a 140 hp Suzuki outboard. We made it, but the part of the river by the golf course is super shallow, 1-1.5 feet deep. It took us about 20 to 25 minutes just to reach the first bridge. And we did bang into some good size rocks, which is kind of freaky. Pass the 2nd bridge by the culvert, we ran into a big ol' wall. BAMMMM!!! It wasnt pretty.

I did see another boat out there, an aluminum Tracker bass boat. Is your bass boat fiberglass? Personally, I wouldnt try it with a fiberglass boat, but an aluminum, its worth it but go slooow. Fishing was kind of slow, but the fish we did catch were quality largemouth. All the fish were positioned on isolated stumps in about 2-4 feet of water. We'd pick off one fish off each stump. We launched off of 494 by the Wakota bridge.

If you go, go slow. And good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I've got an old tracker mod-v aluminum with a 40 horse. I've never been down there so just trying determine the best option. I'm trying to figure out which end of the channel is best to enter. Sounds like you accessed it by going around the downstream end of Grey Cloud Island and then into the slough with the golf course located on your right. Do you know if its possible to get into the channel at the other end (upstream end) where it connects to the main channel??

Made it out yesterday for a couple of hours 430-730. Started out bass fishin caught 2 largemouth 15in, and a 16in on a white chatterbait in a backwater area. Then I headed out to the main channel to look for some walleyes for the first time this year. I was throwing crankbaits around rocky current breaks and it took a while but then I hit a spot and got fish on back to back casts a 23 and a nice fat 27.5

I took the picture with the timer on my camera so the quality is not the best
