Either way, to me there just fish, if I can help someone catch them thats my goal. If anyone chooses to name or not name a lake in there post, that is their personal choice, and not my place to comment on it. I have done both when reporting sucess and failure, if it is a well known lake, or a bite that has been on going, I will usually name the lake, when I find a hot bite on a lesser fished lake, I will just list tactics and locations that produced.
We can all give out what information we want to and use it how we please, I acctually went to Madison after reading your report, even though not great, it was a start, and although I fished it differntly, this got me to the lake. Some people might be upset and are trying to prevent that from happening, but there is plenty of lakes, especially in that area of the state.

i disagree. those of us w/o boats or have limited options and amount of time to fish need as much info as possible. i do understand the theory that posting specifics might lead to overpressure, but those of us who are still learning feel a bit left out in forums such as this when most posters are pro or semi-pro... at least it seems that way. and many times when i've posted questions they're not addressed.
TO EVERYONE: if it's NOT usual practice to post specific locations, where does a person go to find out?
thanks!

If you need to have someone tell you where to catch fish you are ether not very good at it or your just learning. it's comments like this that deter people from learning to fish or asking for help in the first place. no, i don't have a boat and i'm not that 'good' at fishing, even though i've been fishing since i was 5. so i'm supposed to find another forum where newbies or us 'poor' people w/o boats can feel free to ask questions? i'm not making a huge issue of this, but come on, man. personally i think the whole problem is NOT teaching proper fishing methods and morals (conservation, catch-n-release, etc.).

I find if funny that someone would mention the name of a bigger lake and think it is ok, but not mention the name of a smaller lake because they want to protect the lake. Why not try and protect all of our area lakes? I'm all for sharing information, believe me. I just have a line that I don't cross. "so i'm supposed to find another forum where newbies or us 'poor' people w/o boats can feel free to ask questions? i'm not making a huge issue of this, but come on, man." It might be hard to believe, but before Fishing Minnesota or the intronet for that matter, everyday folks like you and me used to still find fish. They found a way to do it, and didn't have a place to type in questions and have thousand of people read it. Where does a person go to find specific locations? Like stated before, bait shops, bars, or the lake its self. Rub some elbows and drown some minnows. Or you could hire a guide for a day. Might seem expensive, but so is buying all of the equipment, boat, gas, tackle and so on. Actually a cheap investment for someone just learning the ropes. You will learn some of the guides better spots to find fish, and how to put together a game plan. I heard there is a guide in the area around here. I'm glad that no one on this thread has mentioned specific spots. Actually surprised! I've said it before and I'll say it again, please don't mention specific spots. It's always your option to post such info, but remember, there are lots of people on this site that don't contribute any info what so ever. They are simply waiting and watching for someone to spill the beans. This is just my opinion, but if you want to "learn" how to fish, you should take some basic info like weather conditions, depth of the fish, baits used and time of day, and apply them to the lake of your choice. Win lose or draw, you will gain much more fishing knowledge doing it this way. Clicking the mouse and having someone tell you where to go doesn't make you a good fishermen in my opinion. And not having the time to put into fishing or the money to buy a boat isn't much of a reason for me to tell you where to go fish. Sorry for the hijack here Hookey. Haven't wet a line since opening day up in Brainerd and my wife says I'm getting grabby! Later, Paul
