Either way, to me there just fish, if I can help someone catch them thats my goal. If anyone chooses to name or not name a lake in there post, that is their personal choice, and not my place to comment on it. I have done both when reporting sucess and failure, if it is a well known lake, or a bite that has been on going, I will usually name the lake, when I find a hot bite on a lesser fished lake, I will just list tactics and locations that produced.

We can all give out what information we want to and use it how we please, I acctually went to Madison after reading your report, even though not great, it was a start, and although I fished it differntly, this got me to the lake. Some people might be upset and are trying to prevent that from happening, but there is plenty of lakes, especially in that area of the state.

Look for the night bite.

It seems the clear water is every where. Well need clouds for a daybite.

I would say night bite where you can find moving water. Thats what I'll be doing.

Loc: LeSueur Co,
So we are to talk in code? Like this.

The walleye night bite is on at a bridge near a swiming beach on this one lake near the town of Madson Lake.

Because I think the, "Hay Soandso you got E-mail" is a poor use of this site. Just pick up the phone and give them a call. We don't care who you send E-mail to.

Do you think we should use this site to misslead other fisherman? When I say slow it means 3 fish and when I say poor I mean the fish are realy hitting.

Such as. I was out yesterday and the fishing was slow. I cant remember when the the early season on Madson has been so poor.

We can get every one to go to another lake and HORD all the walleyes.

If you need to have someone tell you where to catch fish you are ether not very good at it or your just learning.

Just look for the island of boats and fish there. They don't know what there doing ether!

i disagree. those of us w/o boats or have limited options and amount of time to fish need as much info as possible. i do understand the theory that posting specifics might lead to overpressure, but those of us who are still learning feel a bit left out in forums such as this when most posters are pro or semi-pro... at least it seems that way. and many times when i've posted questions they're not addressed.

TO EVERYONE:
if it's NOT usual practice to post specific locations, where does a person go to find out?

thanks!

it's comments like this that deter people from learning to fish or asking for help in the first place. no, i don't have a boat and i'm not that 'good' at fishing, even though i've been fishing since i was 5. so i'm supposed to find another forum where newbies or us 'poor' people w/o boats can feel free to ask questions? i'm not making a huge issue of this, but come on, man.

personally i think the whole problem is NOT teaching proper fishing methods and morals (conservation, catch-n-release, etc.).

Welcome to FM.

When I started this thread I simply mentioned a lakes name, in fact if you read the entire post I don't think anyone came close to mentioning a spot. The mere mention of a lake name puts many people on edge and generates all sorts of fan mail. Mentioning a spot is pretty much the kiss of death.

Everyone here is shares a bit more than others personally I may mention names of the bigger lakes in the area but never the smaller ones. I think that is about to change too. Even the large lakes are not immune to the kind of fishing pressure brought on by a hot bite and post.

The reasons for the tight lips was stated early in this thread. When word gets out on a hot bite the lake mentioned will be hammered possibly for weeks after the bite is done. This is hard on the resource. The person who warned me about mentioning lake name here was not out of line.

For shore fishing advice and Site locations I would suggest you try the old methods. First find time outside of the weekend and visit a local baitshop treat them well and they will help you find fish and direct you to some well known spots for shore fishing. There are plenty in the area !

Meet people face to face that share your interest they will help. Approach other shore fishermen and chew the fat they may share info as well.

It all takes work and in fishing there is seldom a free lunch.

If I was a shore fisherman - the first thing I would do is go over to Cabelas and purchase one of their European Match Rods - the 12 footers, (if they still make them). I bought one about 20 years ago or so - and they are fun. You can punch a 1/2 oz jig about 50 yards on it (I found that out unfortunately when I accidentally hit my neighbors garage door with a loud THWACK at the end of the cul de sac). This will increase your range quite a bit.

And read this forum (ignore the crabby posters) and you will find out some great information. Grab a southern Mn lake map and put together the puzzle.

Learning is what it's all about, something all of us are doing every day, so I certainly wouldn't take offense to that particular comment. Personally, I generally handle specific questions via e-mail and lay out a general report here.

I find if funny that someone would mention the name of a bigger lake and think it is ok, but not mention the name of a smaller lake because they want to protect the lake. Why not try and protect all of our area lakes? I'm all for sharing information, believe me. I just have a line that I don't cross.

"so i'm supposed to find another forum where newbies or us 'poor' people w/o boats can feel free to ask questions? i'm not making a huge issue of this, but come on, man." It might be hard to believe, but before Fishing Minnesota or the intronet for that matter, everyday folks like you and me used to still find fish. They found a way to do it, and didn't have a place to type in questions and have thousand of people read it. Where does a person go to find specific locations? Like stated before, bait shops, bars, or the lake its self. Rub some elbows and drown some minnows. Or you could hire a guide for a day. Might seem expensive, but so is buying all of the equipment, boat, gas, tackle and so on. Actually a cheap investment for someone just learning the ropes. You will learn some of the guides better spots to find fish, and how to put together a game plan. I heard there is a guide in the area around here. grin

I'm glad that no one on this thread has mentioned specific spots. Actually surprised! I've said it before and I'll say it again, please don't mention specific spots. It's always your option to post such info, but remember, there are lots of people on this site that don't contribute any info what so ever. They are simply waiting and watching for someone to spill the beans.

This is just my opinion, but if you want to "learn" how to fish, you should take some basic info like weather conditions, depth of the fish, baits used and time of day, and apply them to the lake of your choice. Win lose or draw, you will gain much more fishing knowledge doing it this way. Clicking the mouse and having someone tell you where to go doesn't make you a good fishermen in my opinion. And not having the time to put into fishing or the money to buy a boat isn't much of a reason for me to tell you where to go fish.

Sorry for the hijack here Hookey. Haven't wet a line since opening day up in Brainerd and my wife says I'm getting grabby! laugh Later, Paul
