I'm psyched up for some morel hunting this year! My younger bro got a bunch last year near Red Wing, and I only had a chance to search once last spring in Central MN but came up empty handed. I'll be on Diamond for fishing on Memorial Day weekend and might try and walk a few wooded areas in search of some.

Good luck to all the morel hunters this year and be sure and let us know how you do, and also how you're preparing them. I've got some venison steaks left and if I get some I'll probably sautee 'em up and eat 'em with the venison.

These same men would greet the rising sun in season though they knew their chances of killing even a single duck were very, very poor indeed." From "The Bluebills Died at Dawn."

With so limited areas to try to find them (all farm fields)I'm worse than the most secretive of hunters. But try a walk by Calhoun.

I was recently in Northern California and we found morels under medrone trees in areas that burned 2 or 3 years ago. That was in the mountains. What conditions do I need to look for in Mn?

1 way is to look around dead elm tree's,on the side of a south facing hill.I would find some woods.Check for ticks, there out.I haven't done much looking yet this year, but it is time to start,my buddy found 2 yesterday and he's been looking for the last week or so,the window is short so prime will be in the next couple weeks.
