Water temps averaged 54 degrees today. The South Winds let up a bit and gave way to a strong North wind that made for some excitement on the boat ramp.

The bass were hitting hot a heavy today but the Eye's seem to be pretty neutral.

I managed one 18 inch fish in 10.5 fow on a jig and a minnow.
Fished all the 'hot spots' and did some searching as well.
The graph shows larger fish scattered from 10 - 30 fow. But they just aren't active yet.

Talked to another fisherman who caught one in 30 and one in 12. But most others I talked to did not fare so well.

The weeds seem to be coming along but they do not seem to be holding fish yet. At least not the weed beds I fished.

Good Luck !

Your right Hookey, the only thing those weeds are holding are bass. From talking to the neighbors on the lake and personal experience the fish are just scattered right now and are not relating to any depth or structure. I will try it off the dock this weekend at night to see if the shallow bite is on at night. I have always done good this time of year on this lake, but not this year, very frustrating!

Tough bite last nite. As said before the fish are scattered and not very agressive. Very clear water with weed growth in deeper than normal depths, a wide bladed grass at depths of 8-12 feet.

Hopefully with the alge bloom later than normal this year the native vegatation can get a foothold and keep up with the curly pond weed.

We did well tonight, picked up a handful of eyes, and a whole bunch of crappies.

Minnows under bobbers or casting and dragging a jig picked up the eyes, wrapped a real nice one around the anchor rope, thats just my luck this year....I acctually just watched my fishing partner boat all the eyes. I've still only put one in the boat this year, and he was almost 10".

We fished one general area all night, had that area to ourselves for the whole evening, we never really moved more than 100yds.

Its good to hear the fishing is picking up. I was also out there on Tuesday and found it slow.

Keep in mind that if you report on specific lakes, you will draw more of a crowd than the rest of us will like when that particular lake turns on. Think about reporting on your methods, not on the particular lake. On big lakes, it's a different story.

Thanks norselander, I'll remember that, but having made 1500 posts, I do know when to pick and choose my spots to post on what lake I was on, I did not start this topic up, just wanted to add some info to it.

Madison has a whole ton of pressure the way it is, I didn't just reveal anything to anyone that there is walleyes and crappies in the lake. Sorry for the rant, I'm sure Madison is one of your favorite lakes, and you don't want more pressure than is needed. Welcome to FM by the way.

Riverrat, I think I was the one that gave a little too much information.
