Me and my roommate Matt got out and got into some good walleye fishing on our flyrods. Brown bunny strip flies worked best and we landed a bunch of decent eyes on the swing. It was a nice change of pace after chasing steelhead for the last 2 months.

Of all the weeks to go home early, this was not the one. My brother and uncles have been slaying the big walleyes on White Iron. Today alone they caught a 23.5", 24", 24", 25", 26.5", and a 28". The last couple of days they have had many from 23 - 26 and Tuesday night they caught a 29". Oh, if only I was still there eek

Now you're just bumming me out!

We opted to not go up this weekend and keep working. DANG IT!

I hit the shag on sunday and manged to find a school of smallies in the frigid 41.7 degree water. I caught 22 off one spot that included 2 over 20", 3 over 19", at least 5 over 18", and the rest were between 15" and 17+". Absolutely the best day I have ever had on Shagawa for smallies...

Sorry Tracey, I am sick to my stomach that I didn't stay up there all week. Are you heading up soon?

We are expecting a baby in June so I don't think I will be making it up there again until September (hopefully!). I haven't fished up there in a long time in the fall, hopefully it is good (it is really sad that I am talking about fall fishing when it is only May).

HEY, Congratulations Nate!!!! grin

Yeah big gap in trips up there but sometimes other things change the priorities. We're getting married at our house on June 7th so I've been spending my time around here trying to make the place ready for 150 people to show up. crazy

Good news is our honeymoon is in Ely for the whole week after!!!!! I hope there's still some 'eyes biting. I think with the late spring we have a fair chance of a good bite. If not, I'll try lakers on B-side. Oh, and shopping in town... wink

Maybe see ya in Sept. Best wishes to your family!!

Thanks and CONGRATS to you as well. A honeymoon in Ely, now you have it made, there is NO WAY I would have convinced my wife of that.

Well my family finished the week off yesterday with a 25.5" and 30" out of White Iron. They had the week fishing dreams are made of! The next time the ice goes out this late I am heading to the cabin for a whole week!

went up to thomas with same crew of 9 years. only people on the lake as far as we could tell, and no reason, it was bone chillin cold. Snowed about 2" sat night. Caught 2 nice LT from shore with one broke line on smelt and the two hook ups coming from a chub and the other a jig and plastic. Water temp on Thomas was 38-41F,, snow still in the woods.
Tried fishin in the canoe for about 2 hours sunday evening,, just about unbearable with the wind and cold water/air.
The fishing was not great, but at least we had jack on the rocks on the rocks. From what we heard, the eyes were hitting on Insula until early tues.
