Just curious as to people suggestions/setup for their boat batteries. I have navigation lights, depth finder, trolling motor, and starter motor (including trim) that I need to get power to. Currently I have all marine deep cycle batteries, one of which is dying quickly and I am looking to replace it with something else. I have a new marine deep cycle battery that I would like to continue to use however I am trying to figure out what else to use with it. I have heard everything from running the trolling motor on the deep cycle and getting a different kind of batter for all of the other functions as they do not require the slow drain like a trolling motor but rather quick bursts of power (starter, trim, etc.) Any ideas on what I should do or opinions on this would be great! Thanks to all in advance!

I think what you said in the last part of you message would work well. I run everything to my STARTING battery & only my trolling motor off the deep cycle.I used to run my front depthfinder off the deep cycle, but the trolling moter caused interference. Personally if it were me I would buy a really good quality starting battery. I check mine periodically just to make sure it is staying charged, I don't often run my big motor for long periods, so over time my equipment is using more power than the outboard can replenish.
Just my opinion. L2f

I would suggest posting this in the Equipment Forum.

well i work at a napa store and sell a lot of batters and of cores i would recommended there batters.....i really would suggest a exid battery they are very good .. i don't get miney of them back on warnty...just watch one thing there are 2 different ways of measuring how much power a battery has one way is called cca that is cold cranking amps and there are mca marine cranking amps ....cold cranking amps of 600 are almost the same as 725 mca ......some people when selling batters will get this mixed up on purpose ......they will sell mca as cca ....so just when they say it has 700 cca or mca just look at it any good battery will say rigt on the top ......then look at the ship code on it .....it is on the side .....as and will say eather feb 08 or B08 they each mean February of 2008 that is when it made itome people will take it off if the batter has been siting around a lot time ......not all batters will have bring your old one with other wise you will have to pay a core charge of at least $5 a good one should not be more then $80 and lift the batter heavy is GOOD it means more lead and that means stronger ship code but all exid do and most other good ones do any ....... if you have any other ?s just ask

and one more thing at the end of the year NEVER leave the batterys in the boat take them out and but then in your baseemnt and chargne them one time in the middle of winter and they will last you 5-8 years .....if a battery is left out in the cold and it is disscharted it WILL frize and once that happens warnty is void and the battery is no good any more you can tell becouse the sides of the case will be bowed out

Google "deep cycle batteries". There is a link near the top with Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). Has everything you ever wanted to know.

Hey thanks a bunch 7outof10, your knowledge about this is awesome, that is exactly what I wanted to know!! Your napa store isn't local near Mankato is it? If so let me know I would love to stop in and chat with a local FM'er!
