I was wondering if anyone has been on shag yet and if so, how's it been out there? My brother-in-law, Father in-law, and Step-father in-law (don't ask LOL) are coming up and staying at the Ladybug Lodge this coming weekend (16th, 17th, &18th) and I'm hoping I can get them to catch some fish. Any help would be much appreciated!

I was out on opener and caught 4 smallies and 3 eyes. All smallies were on the east end and eyes on the west end.

The eyes just use a jig and minnow. We caught ours on a swimbait with a slow presentation. The smallies we were using cranks and stick baits with a stop and go retrieve.

Try olson's bay (north west end of lake)
or stinky ditch had lake in winter there.

I would go with a tube or spider grub if you are looking to get smallies, unless the water has warmed considerably. If it has say to the 50 degree range, then I would throw a suspending jerkbait, or a rattle trap type bait to get a reaction strike. A spinnerbait might work also.

Well we went up early Friday and started fishing @9:00 and went all day with one hammerhandle to show for it. Saturday we went out and just about got blown off of the lake but ended up with four walleyes and about 6 or 7 smallies all day. That was it. Went out early Sunday and found we weren't dressed for the occasion and went in early, packed up and went home. It stunk to spend all of that money for such a poor weekend.

We were all over that lake and the only way we were able to catch anything was to go up the river to the first righthanded bend (in front of the cabin) and use a plain hook and minnow with a split shot about a foot up the line and SLOWLY drag it back to the boat.

Btw- there were four of us and two boats. Just about covered the whole lake I think lol.

Any more reports on Shagawa? I am heading up this coming weekend on our annual fishing trip and was wondering how the bite was.

Thanks
