Then you know I didn't need a net!!! I didn't think you were too serious, but some of these locals get down right mad if the location of their honey holes get out. You should have stopped down and introduced yourself. It's nice to meet some more locals from this site...you know put a face to the name. Plus then I can follow you to your "secret spots" when I see you out on the water!!! grin

Har har har... I was just ribbin' ya' bout the dogs. I love dogs, and the bigger, the better. I'd just as soon punt any dog less than 45 pounds.

I'd love to join you on the river tonight. Where should I find you at around 7:00 p.m.? We should really put those little ones back and see how big they get in a few years. Anything 16 inches and above can see the frying pan.

Ripper' it was really good to see you again. What a suprise to run into you so soon. I look forward to spending time on the water with you again. It's been a long time. Say hi to your Dad, your bro', and to Greg if you see em'. Hope you really pound em' this weekend in your tournament.

I'll be somewhere between 8th street and 1st street, so I'll be close by. Just call my cell phone and let me know when you are ready...that or I can just meet you at 7:00pm by the 3rd street boat launch? What ever works for you...I was thinking of even trying some trolling with cranks?? That or anchoring and jigging again? So many choices, but there's not enough time in the day.

As far as the size of the fish I kept, usually my minimum keeping size is 14" and I almost never keep smaller fish, But there are a ton of those 12-13" fish, so I decided to help the other fish grow by keeping a few for myself. So you see I was actually doing conservation work...population control! wink

I'll see you tonight...Also if you have any minnows, bring 'em. We might need more than I have if we get into the "bait stealers" like yesterday.

Hoping to get out tonight as well. I need to go "find" some minnows after work, but hope to maybe get out around 7ish. I'm thinking I'm going to try below the D am(I don't know why that word gets censored?) if it's not too crowded, or I may go down a little ways to past the armory. I can't think of it exactly but right where that ditch that runs along the bowling alley road dumps into the river?...I checked that out the other night and it "looked" promising....
Maybe I'll see some of you around. Can't say what I'll be wearing, but I'll have on a a camo hat that says camoplast on the front

Wow! Started down past the armory-nothing! Moved to the d am and went down towards the end of the walkway. First 20 or so casts I got nothing. Then a rock bass, and another and after that it got good. I think I went about 10 in a row, and maybe 20 but I missed a bunch. Nothing of any decent size, all 10-12" but it was steady for sure. I've never fished there so now I think I'm spoiled! I'd say I coulda caught 50 and ended up landing about 30 between rock bass and walleyes. Boy, when it got dark they turned on. Used a glow bananna hook from my ice box and some ditch minnows I picked up out by farms pool.

So your boy fell in...at least theres not a lot of current right now...look at the positives right? Too bad you had to leave early though, it was a beautiful evening to be on the river.

Canopy Sam joined me last night catching some wee little walleye's and some gigantic rock bass...it was a mix till just after it got really dark, then all rock bass so we called it a day. Not quite as fast as Tuesday, but still a good day to be out.

Arne, that water flowing into the river looks promising doesn't it? I haven't caught anything there this year either so don't feel bad, it's pretty shallow, however it might be a good area to try after dark? It's good to hear you got into the fish below the spillway, I might leave the boat on shore and slink my way down to there for a couple hours tonight.

Talk to you guys later.

Thanks Lee! I had a great time yesterday. It's always fun to fish with someone that shares the same passion for the outdoors and river fishing as I have.

I'll look you up next week when I'm back in town. Hopefully we can get out to chase cats, more and bigger walleyes :), and perhaps some smallmouth bass.

On a side note, I sure would like to see folks putting back some of those little cigars. It's certainly their choice to keep fish, but it would really be something to see what kind of fishery we'd have in a year or two if they were left to grow to a reproductive age.

Have a terrific weekend!

CSP, sorry I didn't see your post till just now, I was out in my boat poking around last night till about 11:30pm. Tried jigging, casting, trolling, etc. Caught a few Pike and tons of Rock Bass again. Trolling a shallow running crank bait was fun after dark catching those Rock Bass, but no Eye's yet. There are so many of those Rock Bass in this river, I might have to start taking some home and eating them...

I was below the d am again last night, end of the walkway. Wasn't as good as the night before but I still caught steady fish for 2 hours. A lot more rock bass, but I caught around 10 eyes and put them all back!
I see a ton of people fishing behind the fire hall. I take it fishing is good there too? I know the last two nights I never went more then 5 casts without a fish! And last night I was all by myself! Can't beat that.

Good to hear you caught some fish. It's been pretty good behind the Fire Hall, but it's finally starting to slow down now...I knew it wouldn't last too long. Pretty soon the river will be back to normal with just a few local anglers on the water. I can't wait!
