I fished with Nolan on opener and he told me they have been doing pretty good on the crappie out there.

We had the area to ourselves at first and caught the big ones in short order. As other boats inched into our area the big crappie bite ended. Anyway all the fish were released. Think deeper water when hunting for the big ones and I'll leave it at that. Water temp was 53 and the wind was blowing big time into our area.

Hey great report Mark. Did you happen to take any pics?

All I had was my cell phone camera which never seems to work and an old disposable camera that hopefully did work. Cell phone pic was very blurry and I'll try to clean it up but I won't have time for that until ???? Too busy fishing. Is it just me or does everybody else have lousy fishing if they bring their camera along?? I'm afraid to let the digital anywhere near my boat nowdays - bad juju.

Saw a lot of nice fish caught last night - sadly not me. My best was 12". Boat next to us nailed an 18+" crappie - a serious brute. Was glad to see all the big crappies were released. CPR works and replicas are better than the skin mount IMO. With the increase in fishing pressure (last night reminded me of Pool 4 bumper boats) this big crappie bonanza is going to end soon. Has been a lot of fun. The big crappies are still there but will be a lot harder to track down.

18"+, now that sounds like a fish story, sorry but I'm not calling anyone out, but I have fished this lake for years and have personally seen less than 5 fish over 16". Now I have seen plenty of fish that were over 16" until I offered a tape. I hope intown will refund my season pass, after reading these reports I don't know if I will be able to get out from the landings anymore.

Hi Mark...

You aren't kidding about the "bumper boats"!! My last time out, you literally had to fish vertically!! Not my cup of tea!!

I've played that game twice this season and the last time spurred me on to search out my own bonanza. With a little luck, a bit of skill and your "lucky jig" tied on, you don't need to suffer the elbow-to-elbow fishing conditions happening on Waconia right now. In fact, on our way home last night, we drove right by the east shore access... You'd think it was opener again with all the rigs parked up on the road. Was there leagues last night or what?

I can attest to the crappies Mark spoke of...........mutant crappies have been caught all spring out there, Opener evening I saw a boat with grandpa, dad, and son (about 7), the son caught 2 - 16-17's in about an hour..............he will be fishin for life, surprised he didn't jump out of the boat he was so excited.

Was out for 4 hours last nite, gave the crappies 2 and the eyes 2, no eyes in the boat at all. Did hear of 1 caught in the shallows on a crank bait. Give my congrats to your son! I have 3 myself that have all turned into great fisherman due to gettin them started young!

Great to hear those big fish are back in the lake. There are always a few that make it to those large (15"+) sizes. I'm no statistician, but those have to be the fish that are two or more standard deviations away from the mean, the absolute lottery prize winner fish. Fish during the right time of year (as in now in the late pre-spawn and spawn) when they congregate or are predictable and you can hook up with them. Try to find them the rest of the year and it can be brutally tough.

CPR those fish as you can get a replica and there are numerous other smaller fish available for a meal. Congrats to those that have proved the rumors true.

Went out today till about 8 PM. Crappies were not hitting like they have been. Pretty slow going, but still caught a few and it was a beautiful day!
