Do they exist? If so, I've been unsuccessful in finding them.... I've trolled the entire lake, varying from 5-15 feet of water with leeches and Rapalas and have been skunked every time.

Does anyone have any "pointers" they're willing to share? I'm not looking for GPS coordinates or your specific hot spot, just some ideas on what else to try. If they are there, they are very finicky - after all, they're walleyes, right? wink

If you're comfortable sharing some ideas (and don't feel like sharing with the entire forum), please feel free to email me:

Thanks in advance!

They are in there, but very hard to find... Think weeds.

Weeds and rocks hold fish out there this time of year. I would look shallow right now at sun up and sun down. May take some experimenting with lures and retrieves to get them to eat once you find a good looking spot.

Loc: LeSueur Co,
Try trolling a Perch colored #4 Salmo Hornet. They run around 7' deep on 8lb fireline 30' back. This is the best search lure I have found for this time of year. let it tick bottom once and a while.

A search for walleyes, regardless of the lake, does not end when trolling does not produce.

Thanks for the advice gentlemen. I will put your ideas to work the next time I'm down that way. I'm relatively new to looking for walleyes in the weeds. Too many trips out with my Dad and Grandpa when I was younger has me conditioned to trolling leeches and raps along rocky bottoms - we couldn't lose... Time to learn a new approach I guess. wink

Muddog, dumb question for you regarding the Salmo Hornet, do I want the sinking or floating version of this lure? I'd assume floating, since it's the movement of trolling that pulls the bait toward the bottom, but thought I'd better clarify. smile

Thanks again everyone!

Loc: LeSueur Co,
floating. As you said, the motor will pull the lure down. I think the sinking version is more a casting, count down type lure. Another lure to try is the firetiger rattle rap. The rattle rap will also cast better then the hornet.

Lime green mimic minnows paddle tail or curly tails cast at the weeds, swim it back slow or drag it over gravel hopping once and a while should work once you get bit trolling. The list gos on and on. The Hornet should get the job done 75% of the time..

INSIST ON SALMO

How was that commercial going to go again TO? Salmo, Lund and Artic Armor all at once.

rooney, I would try fishing the weeds, especailly a transition from weeds to gravel or sand/ rock. I don't really know anything about Mazaska, but these are normally good areas to start.

Pitching a jig and minnow or slip bobbering in a likely area, or one that you have caught fish in while trolling/drifting can put alot of eyes in the boat.

Yes, those 3 but in order for the commercial to be effective we also need to be going down the middle of the lake ~35 mph in a horizontal rain.

Well I think we had that, all we needed was a camera.

Put only 2 hours in on Mazaska today(my daughter was bored). Water temp was 59.2. No walleye, just one large mouth. Saw a huge bowfin follow my twister tail to the boat though, that was kinda neat. Daughter thought it was a lake snake monster of some sort. smile
