Just when I thought I'd heard it all........

Switzerland Wants to Protect the Rights of Plants

Plants' Rights

It isn't just the rights of animals that some are promoting. The Weekly Standard reports an ethics panel in Switzerland is expressing concern that the arbitrary killing of plants is morally wrong. The Swiss Federal Ethics Committee on Non-Human Biotechnology says that humans cannot claim "absolute ownership" over plants; that "individual plants have an inherent worth," and that man may not use them as he pleases.

It cites a hypothetical example of a farmer "decapitating" wildflowers as expressing a moral stance toward the organism and possibly doing something bad to the flowers themselves.
One critic of the report says the concept of plant dignity provides what he called "another tool of opponents to argue against any form of plant biotechnology."

— FOX News Channel's Martin Hill contributed to this report.

It's happening hear in minnesota as well.

Last year a huge fight was started when a guy cut down a bunch of oak trees up by St. Cloud on his own property.

Groups were claiming that the trees were part of some old growth forest that reached all the way up to the Brainerd area.

Well it's about time. I keep telling the wife I don't cut the grass as often as she likes because I hate decapitating those lovely green creatures in the yard. So far she isn't falling for it. I need this law now.

Hey, look at the bright side. If it catches on, PETA vegans won't have a leg to stand on. Heck, carrots probably scream in agony when they get pulled out of the ground. People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals will have nowhere to run once People for the Ethical Treatment of Plants get them in their sights.

Pretty soon we'll be eating air.

I guess if you beat a drum in the forest with a bunch of other wackjobs everything will be better. Like tacklejunkie said, coming to a country near you. Ugh.

Animals eat plants. PETA is in for a fight - I would love for PETA to say these folks are wacky.
