In my experiance. North wind only makes the North end of the lake even better. Sounds weird but has held true for me over the years. Even if you have to trailer around to get there it will be worth it.
I'll be out with my dad Friday morning in a old 16 foot Lund WS-16 with a 40 Evenrude. Saturday I will be fishing with a friend in a green 18 foot Pro-V with a 60 Yamaha.
I'll keep a eye out for ya. By the way. I'm not easy to miss. I'm 6' 4" and over 3 bills. I'll be dressed in Red rain gear from head to toe.
Good Luck. Fishing is only going to get better from now until after Memorial day this year.

Sounds good to me. We have a 150 johnson on the crestliner and we're easy to spot as well (i am 6'5" 230, and he's not tiny either) all red rain gear and all tan rain gear, never leave the dock without it! we get to fish Winnie this week and Red next week. Then go to Lac Seul in June, I love this time of the year!

Hey guys I have been following the thread with interest. I too will be heading up very early thursday morning and camping. Gonna be over at the Bowen Lodge camping area on Minnow Lake. i will be in red Lund 1750 Fisherman 60th Anniversary Edition. This will be my first trip to Winnie and can't wait. I will definatly have to hit the north end as well, to get out of the wind if nothing else.

Does anyone operate VHF in their boat? I have an Uniden Atlantis hand held that works fairly well. Channel 12 is 5 watts for me and works great for talk. Give a shout out once and in awhile for Metro-Steve and maybe we could share notes and a beer or 2 or 6...

Or, I also carry a GMRS radio, not sure channel to use though.

My buddy is in all red raingear and he is about 6'3" as well. We will also have a yellow lab in the boat with us.
Good luck to everyone,

Steve

I like the way you think Metrosteve.
My dad does not have a radio in his boat. Not sure if my buddy does either. I'll keep a eye out for both of you. Sounds like we will all be in some pretty common boats.

we have a marine band radio, My [PoorWordUsage]-l goes by Papa Trout. we'll listen for ya. we'll have our wives at the campground and my 2 year old boy. i wish it would be warmer and a little less wind to make the "home camp" happier. If the home camp is happy then we get to fish longer and happier! otherwise I could careless about some wind and cool temps.

I hear ya about the weather and the family camping deal. Next week headed to Big lake off Echo trail with the family but the wife now insists on a cabin so happy times are had by all.

Fortunately we are spoiled with the RV but they still would rather be outside especially with the little one. I try to tell her that in a few years it will be me that will have to do the intertaining while they sit in peace, but doesn't count I guess. They would rather be fishing as well but not in cold conditions. I have fished Winnie before but not this early in the season so we'll have to fisn what's working.

one question I have for you guys is that when you're fishing that shallow are you vertically jigging or casting into the shallows or corkin' it? do most anchor, drift, electric ?

thanks

Hey "goose" I have a 80 Yamaha...not a 60. Should be good fishing. By the way I used spottails and chubs this last Sunday...didn't seem to make any difference. They seemed to like either.

Hey Extreme
As slow as your boat goes I just figured it was a 60. It may have been that I was in the front. Looking froward to tomorrow to get to the great North woods for some well needed R and R. Some white tips in the fry pan would be nice too.

It goes slow because between me and you there is a lot of meat there...I mean a lot of meat!! I told the war dept. (my wife) that I was going fishing with you on Saturday morning...she didn't seem to care. I know my boy heard me and asked if he could go. We will see if the weather holds out to whether I will bring him up there or not.
