I have half a day to get out this friday and want to go somewhere close where I can get a few pike. I'm thinking either demontreville or turtle. Has anyone fished these lakes since opener? How have you done?

JB, haven't fished either lake but I replied to your earlier post about NC vs chisago. The pike are active on Forest right now along the weedlines that are emerging. Try the sunrise river pools and dam areas for numbers of smaller pike and most areas can be waded or worked from shore.

The reason I asked about demontreville and turtle is because they are quite close to me. I would much rather fish those other locations, but the price of gas has hit me hard so I have to keep it even closer to home now. frown It really sucks because I wanted to hit the whole chisago chain hard this spring.

JB, Still heading to Grand Marais this spring? I have been doing that run for the past 23 years and it is still going to happen but we are going to pack all of our gear and people into one vehical this year.

Yep, it'll take more than high gas prices to stop me from that trip! I'll be up there the last week of june. Couple weeks later than normal, but with the bad winter and cold spring we've had it's probably for the better. This will be about our 27th year in a row now and biggest to date...first time up there as a daddy! smile And also my fiance's family will be going up there with us as well. When are you heading up? For how long? Which lakes you intend to fish? Shoot me an e-mail. Goldglover81@yahoo.com

Oh, and by the way...I ended up going to demontreville on friday. I posted my report in another thread. No pike, lot's of small bass...nice lake though...will probably hit again after the bass opener.

for shear numbers of pike, White Bear is hard to beat. Most of the fish you get will be 2-5 pounders, but there are some lunkers out there.

I'm probably gonna go out tomorrow, but give the boat a day off. Probably just gonna head up to the sunrise river and see what I can get up there. It's usually good for a few pike, plus a mess of sunnies.

JB, I thought I sent you an e-mail but maybe it didn't get delivered. I will be up 5-9th this June and hopefully again about a week later for a weekender. We stay at the SNF campground on 2 Island and tent it. We mostly fish 2 island and then shore fish some of the local stream trout lakes. We fish kemo, trestlepine, Dick, 2 island, ballclub, Devils track, just to name a few. Occassionally we go up to Gunflint and try for lakers as well depending on the time we have up there. Good luck out there.

Yeah, I didn't get the e-mail. Two island is a very nice campground. You might have some tough luck up there this year with the cold spring. Trestle Pine is a good trout lake...always been hit and miss though, one day we'll catch 20 and the next maybe 1. Make sure you give a report when you get back. Try e-mailing me again, I can tell you about some other spots.
