As far as the people fishing on the pier...did you notice they all had dark skin? Seems to me that the natives can do just about whatever they want? Does not seem right to me? Anyway I like most everyone else on Winne I had a blast catching the big walleyes but only could find three for the pan. Oh well I guess it could have been worse smile

That Ice sheet sure was big - had to trailer around. NO way out of Nodak's and it was still all iced in when I left today!!

I caught 12 walleyes Saturday on Winnie mostly outside the Gap, but at the Dugouts & Mallard. Kept one. Sunday was slow - did not see any other Walleye caught, I only caught one.

One boat, a Warrior with a 130 Honda - what a great couple Guys!!!!! They did well as they had the right jig. Open up a FM account & keep in touch...

We fished Leech on Saturday. Many nice 22"-26" fish. We, also, had a 26.5 and 27". One 15" walleye.
Friday there was ice from 5 Mile to Two Points but it was gone Saturday morning

Sunday: Fished the west side of Winnie. Two guys 2 limits plus 7 releases. 10.4' of water using 1/16 oz jig and shiners.

It was strange to see all of the ice in the SE part of the lake.

Walker Bay is open. Came in from fishing through the narrows....no ice to be seen. Drove to Walker and down to the city access....no ice to be seen. The only ice that could possibly remain would be in the extreme South end of Walker Bay. One could use the city access if needed.

Anyone know if it's open water down around the dam? We're heading up this weekend (Thursday 5/15) staying at the Pines. Will we get the boat out?

Just to add my 2 cents worth - 6 of us (2 boats) fished Sat. and half day Sunday - same report as most everyone else - caught 81 walleyes - kept 6 (Sat. night supper - mmmm good) - everything else was too big. Range from 18.5 to 27.5. We caught 6 over 26 inches but decided to release them anyway. No complaints here. Fishery looks good. All caught on a jig with a shiner.

I really don't think that there is a bad spot on the lake to fish right now. We caught fish at every spot inside of cutfoot and in the gap and on the north shore. The north shore fish were a little bit deeper ( 12' to 16' ) then all the rest of the spots were it seemed like the fish liked 8' to 12' best if there was waves and cloudy skies which it has been for the most part. This morning the fish bite in the rain and when it stopped the wind picked up and they still were biting but a little tougher getting them to hang on long enough to get a good hook set. This morning I fished for around 5 hours and caught 11 and kept 2. The 11 ranged from 17 1/4 to 23". The water temps ranged from 42 to 44 degrees.

Edit Reason: added water temps

Wow I'm getting excited, can't wait but still have two finals and a paper in my way before leaving Iowa City to make the trip all the way up there on Friday. Sounds like everyone is doing good we'll be staying at Gus's place on Ball Club but plan on trailing to where the best bite is. Thanks for all the good reports helped me catch my biggest walleye to date last year.
We'll be in my uncle's G3....good luck everyone

What stage of the spawn are the fish in right now? Any thoughts on this coming weekend?

My guess is that they are just about done with the spawn with the water temps at 42 to 44 and we had some good sunlight today and it looks like the temp will stay in the upper 50 to 60 for highs and no lower then 37 for lows.
