How did everyone do for opener?

It was pretty slow for the most part for us. Between my cousin and I we managed 4 eyes between 25 and 28" along with a few healthy pike, bass, and a bonus 20" smallmouth (that are supposedly not in the lake). Nothing for the freezer this year.

And how about that snow? Gotta love MN.

Only caught one largemouth on saturday. It was a dandy though, about 4 pounds. That was on south twin by menahga, then we hit portage and quit after an hour of getting soaked with no bites. Both lakes were at 50 degrees. Sunday afternoon I went to mud lake by myself and caught some small crappies and lots of bass. They're still not spawning in there. Only had one decent crappie on and it got off next to the boat.

Was at the cabin on third all weekend and besides getting soaked and frozen we managed a few snakes, crappies, bluegills, and bass. Did not see many guys catching much.

Lad were you the one parked on front of the river to 4th with a guy in a white sweatshirt in the bow of the boat in the downpours Saturday afternoon?

Jig, we were down in the 2nd for the most part where the river runs in. We were over by the river to the 4th a couple times through out the weekend. We were in a red 16' lund that said "Shamrock Shores" on the side. We bought it from them a couple years ago and haven't yet painted it. My cousin and I both had on red rain gear though (one brighter than the other).

Went out with six guys in two boats, put in about 9:30am and fished till noon, picked up 5 eyes 16" to 24.5", 2 lm bass, 2 pike (one was 32"aprox.) and 1 croppie. Went to Boot lake for the afternoon snow storm and found 0 fish and picked up about 1/2" of slush in the boat.

Lad we are going to hit it up again this weekend and hopefully the weather will be better this time around. I have a place in the north bay and we run around in a black lund fisherman. Maybe we will see you this weekend.

How deep is that river to 2nd right now? Could a big glass boat get through without any problems?

I dont want to get out and push this time of year!

You can make it down that river if you go slow and trim up the motor. We bent our prop on the bottom about 2/3 of the way to the second. We dont have a trim on the motor. There is a low spot there before the last turn to the left. Keep it slow and you will be fine though.

What did you catch your eyes on Lad? Last year leeches seemed to work the best on third but the year before I was catching everything on shiner minnows. Caught alot of them on raps later in the year down in the first little bay going to the north it is only about 5 to 6 feet of water but I caught 7 over 6 pounds the biggest being 31 inches

Hector-is that the shallow narrow bay near the public landing? I always wondered if that area would hold some walleye. What time of year were you finding fish up there?

My grandma is next to Round Bay. The only times I tried that area it was looking for panfish and I couldnt keep the bullheads off.

All our eyes were taken on 1/4 oz. jigs with Berkley gulp grubs in 3-6 FOW.

I have lived on that bay on the south side for 25 years and we catch some eyes in there between the points and the river on the end all summer. Need to run the weedline and keep the pike off but they can be had there.

Jig4all did you ever have much luck for eyes down as far as you can go in the back bay? Years ago I use to go back and forth across the bay trolling rattle traps and used to catch alot of nice eyes but now it seems that when I go way down to that end that there is alot more weeds and muck and I hav not really been able to pull much out of there trolling.
