I went to Red with a group of guys. I have a cabin a little over an hour away from Red and we've had a group do this trip ever since the season opened there 3 years ago. There were 7 of us this year.
We had okay fishing Saturday, the weather made it pretty tough with snow, sleet, rain, 34 degrees, and lots of wind blowing in on the shore we wanted to fish. We cut our day short due to the weather and ended with 12-20 fish per guy for most of the group.
Sunday was awesome, the weather was beautiful and the fish were on the bite big-time. We caught fish all day long and lost count, some of the guys thought they had 35 fish each, other guys were over 50 fish. In my boat we had 4 triples and so many doubles we lost count. We had several fluries of activity where you'd catch fish on 3-4 consecutive casts.
All of our fish came from 2-6 feet of water. We started with jigs and shiners and later switched to big plastics (5 inches) which the fish were t-boning, completely inhaling, or otherwise smacking the you-know-what out of. It was a very fun trip.

Lake of the woods report; The fishing was fantastic!! We fished with Brian from lakeroad lodge was a blast!! We caught all the fish we wanted. We released 30 fish over 19.5 inches. The biggest one was 29inches long. Also caught a couple of big stergon. The service we got was great very friendly and knowledge of the lake was also great. He is a great host. I highly recommend Brian if your coming up to fish low. Thanks again Brian for the great weekend of fishing!!!! See you again soon.

Did well in OT County. Fish were really biting well from 6-8am, slowed down after that, but still caught plenty. We were done by noon. We were sick of the rain by then anyway.

Spent 2 1/2 days on Leech and all I can say is wow. 3 of us put 49 fish in the boat. A 28" 3 27" every thing alse was in between 22"-26 3/4" inch with the average proble 25" and 2 that were keepers. There was also 5 other boats in a group that did the same.

We fished URL and all I can say is I hope everybody gets to get in on a bite like that at least once in their lifetime. We had a great crankbait bite in the morning then switched over to a jig bite. What was working for us was either a green standup swimming jig with a 2" pink gulp grub topped with a white 3" gulp grub. No kidding, it was big and bulky but the fish just killed it. Our other top producer was a pink fireball jig with a 4" black and pink ringworm. Gulp alive worked great too.
On saturday we cut it short with 4 in the livewell by noon. Had them for dinner and Sunday had a limit by 9:30. Fished a few hours on Monday and boated probably 75 fish. All males with the biggest being a 20.5". The smalles fish we caught was maybe a 14.5 on the north end.
Matt, that IMX 721 jigging rod I built was the BOMB!

Great opener Saturday on the LOTW. Big fish were the rule on select locales and half of these bigger fish lakeside were still egg laden roundies! Probably the best opener I remember ever for them big fish anyhow?
