I'm playing ball in Zumbro Falls this weekend and may not want to drive back to Utica. Any recommendations as to where to put up a tent? I may want to fish a little also.

theres the sportsmens club campground right in the falls.its just across the road from the ball park. its right to your left as your going on 63 towards roch. ive never stayed there, but its got a canoe put in. there is some good fishing on the river. not so much right in the campground. its just a short drive down the road to some better spots.

I grew up in that area... Sportsmans is a great place for the guys, but if your bringing the family, you might want to check out Bluff Valley.. about 2.5 miles west of Zumbro Falls just off of 60..
They have a few things for the kiddies...
Later..

Bluff Valley probably would be your closest bet. If you can drive a little, Chesterwoods/Bear Creek Reserve offers campsites as well, plus fishing.

If I'm driving back to Chester, I might as well drive all the way home. If I do stay it will be just the guys type of thing.

What can I expect to catch below the dam? I know bass is closed, but is it worth it to try for Northern or walleyes maybe? Any pannies?

You will find numerous rough fish. Also, if you are a trout fisherman, it is worth a try. ZF has a trout stream running just west of town on HWY 60. That may be better than fishing on the Zumbro for you. There are northerns and walleyes in there. Not real abundant but they can be had. You should be able to check the DNR website and see if they have a map of the river available online to give you some access points. Might even have time to have one mailed to you before the weekend.

We don't have enough to play this weekend, I guess I'll fish somewhere else this weekend after helping Mom with yard work.
