Has anyone tried the "Alive" leeches (not sure if I can mention a brand name in this forum) and done a side by side comparison with real live leeches? Would be interested in knowing if they work as well as the mfgs. ads claim.

Well... I tried a Gulp ALIVE Leech on saturday, while 3 others in the boat were fishing live bait. It didn't catch me a fish, but live bait wasn't HOT either. Tough weekend with cold water didn't make for an accurate test.

Have not used them yet, but do to the hype on FM and some T.V. shows, I might be purchasing some in the near future.

I'm excited to try the Gulp ALIVE emerald shiner minnows and black shad minnows behind a spinner or on a jig! The crawlers behind a spinner a great for repelling pesky perch. Anyone have any opinions on the ALIVE floating leeches vs. the regular ones?

Tried it this weekend. Didn't work for me, but then nobody was getting much of anything. I did get to phat bull heads on it though.

Last year i bought gulp leeches in the bag like usual plastics and i noticed that they are the same exact things that are in the gulp alive buckets. Last year i used the gulps I had in the bag and they worked just as good as real leeches. I like using the plastics because they last longer, and are easier to take care of. I also had five inch shiners and ran out of them in a day from catching too much bass.

Yep Geppy, I think they are the same thing...Ive bought a couple buckets of them now, an I did by some of the gulp in bags, and they are about the same. I think the difference is that when you buy the bucket its just easier to "recharge" your plasitic, and when they are in a hard container they hold their shape better, instead of getting squished and misformed in you tackle bag (at least in tackle bag :s ). They also have the gulp alive recharge spray that runs about 5 bucks and I think that the same juice they have in the buckets, so I think with my next batch of plastics I might just buy that spray and dump it in tupperware container and put my gulp pastics in it, might save a few bucks and you could put a couple different styles of plastics in it..Theres a thought for those of you sold on gulp like I am smile

The gulp in bags are very simuliar to the stuff in the buckets. If you take them from the bag and put them in the bucket they will get softer than the Alive version. I don't know if they'll eventually disolve though.

Borc is correct,
The forumla is different. They are similar, but are not the same. I was made aware of this over the weekend.

I have used gulp quite a bit and just recently tried alive leeches and smelt. Here is when i use it. If you are in a river it will work great but on a lake when you need to present a slow approach live bait works much better. the main reason i believe this is true is live bait will move and if you are giving a slow presentation the gulp or alive just doesn't have the movement when fish are not that active. Alive works great when you are getting those sunny bites or any other kind of fish and they rip apart your leech or crawler. This will allow you to keep your bait by the fish and not messing around with it so much. You should be able to use the same gulp or alive through several fish. I have experimented with this alot since last year and these have been my results. Fish it in the river or a hot bite or when the other fish won't leave you alone. and fish live bait when you are required to use a slower presentation or the gulp or alive just ain't cuttin it!

The Gulp Smelt have been great for jig fishing for me at Winne and Waubay. The one thing I have noticed about the Gulp in the plastic bags is that you have to be careful and make sure you seal the bag after openning it. I have had a couple of bags open up on me when I thought they were closed. User error I'm sure.

For the guys using the Gulp Leeches or Gulp Alive leeches, are you having more success with the 3 or 5 inch version??? I finally bought some and was planning on using this weekend on the big pond. I bought both.

I was wondering if a guy could throw the Gulp in the Gulp Alive! buckets? Can you mix different colored Gulp in the same bucket? Anybody tried this? what would be the harm? Can you buy just the "juice"? Those spray bottles the same stuff? sorry about all the questions but just curious. I think the 5" leecehs will work better because of the action of the tail, those 3 inchers are pretty stiff.

They will become more "mushy" for lack of a better term. The formula of Gulp! in the bag is different and I'm guessing the formula for the leeches themselves is different too. Will it be the end of the world, probably not; but I was told to avoid doing it.
