Went out this afternoon/night and only managed 2 walleyes, but made them count. A 28" and a 25.5". Was nice to have the first fish caught in my new boat being 9+ pound walleye!

I was out all day Saturday in the rain and managed only one 18" Walleye. Funny thing was we were trolling rather shallow for Pike, go figure. Still good to get out. I'd give it another 2 weeks to really fire up the bite.

Well, we decided to bite the bullet (kind of) and head out to a local lake on the opener. We didn't have a chance to get the boat ready, plus it is nice avoiding the scene at the landing so we opted for the canoe. Of course everyone else had boats so we turned some heads.

Started out around 7am and got into some catfish first out on the main bay. Caught 'em on a jig and fathead and ended up catching 5 total (all between 2 and 4 pounds) before heading for the shallows. Here is me with one:

At the walleye spot we dropped the anchor and proceeded to hook into some fish right away. Caught many smaller ones, as well as a couple good eaters. The largest was my 21" and although I usually would throw a fish like that back, it was hooked pretty deep, plus we needed it to have enough to feed the whole family for our traditional Mother's Day walleye dinner! The best part was we stayed completely dry and made it home by noon. I'm pictured in the vintage red flannel (given to me by my great grandpa Erv, who died in 1995 and was a diehard angler) and my bro ('Flowage Tamer' on here) joined me.

Will be fishing on Diamond on Memorial Day Weekend...hoping the 'eyes are snapping by then. Will be fishing out of an older tan Sylvan with a 50 horse Mariner. Stop by and say hi if anyone sees me out there!

Believe it or not my boat was in 2.4 feet of water! We caught both walleyes in less than 18 inches of water.
