I tried doing a search for threads on this topic, but came up with nothing. Can someone give me a link to a thread here at FM.com addressing how to, and/or, how difficult it is to convert an outboard with controls to a tiller with a handle.Otherwise, replies as to how to do this would be appreciated.

It's not that difficult of a conversion... I can't remember another thread on FM.. so I guess here is as good as anywhere -

You'll need to disconnect the throttle & shift cable and the electrical harness at the motor. You'll need to purchase a tiller handle, which should have some short shift & throttle cables coming out of the tiller handle. There will also likely be a electrical connector.

You'll need to remove the mounting bracket that the drag link connects to on the motor - it'll likely be two bolts or nuts w/studs in the motor.

Mount the new tiller handle to the same spot that the drag link bracket was connected to. Connect up the throttle & shift cables and the electrical harness, make some adjustments and you're in good shape.

It's not a difficult job if you take your time...

Valv, I don't have an outboard yet to convert, but am looking at a couple of 35hp Evinrudes.

A friend was given an old Lund as payment for some carpentry work and wants to make the same conversion. It came with an old 35hp Chrysler that runs like a top. We don't know the year but the model# is 354HA.How do we determine the year and where would we look for a tiller handle. Someone told us there may be conversion kits avaliable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
After doing a little research the motor was made between 1970-75.

Chrysler will be very tough to find, you can check with Twin City Outboards, there shouldn't be the need for a kit, it's pretty straightforward job, as Marine_man explained, but newer motors might have different setups
