I've caught a couple walleyes there but more by accident than design. They hit bass lures - identity crisis? I do see guys fishing explicitly for them but have never witnessed one being caught by them. Probably not a high percentage spot.

Where are backwaters on the rum? North of the anoka dam i assume, right?

Look at a satellite map of the river and you will see them. A number of places on the internet have them including Google Earth.

There is nothing south of the Anoka dam except some small rapids and a boat launch before it hits the big river.

I personally hope Neighbor guy takes all the snot rockets out of the water!

Are you talking about these backwaters?

[img][/img]

If you are, how much of this can be accessed with a boat? How deep is it? I have never tried to venture back into these.

Sorta, kinda, sometime's, a lot depends on how may logs and trash is clogging the waters. You may get in and never get out, without getting really wet. Does that sound like first hand information?

Like has been said - no telling until you try it. Same way all of us have to approach it every year and sometimes every trip as the river levels rise and fall. River changes week to week and sometimes day to day.

Best advice is "go for it" or not depending on how adventurous you are and what kind of boat you have and how hard you want to work at it.

Makes sense. I guess I can always call a tow truck if I get stuck in the backwaters.

I mostly fish floodwater back waters this time of year. But North of Cambridge (up river) there are a few good ones. Those get preasured a lot. Another location is around the Walbo bridge access. There is a nice bowl of a backwater just down river, as well as several oxbow backwaters up river a ways. The water is up and fast, so these spots should be fishable.
