Not sure how many people this affects besides myself, but I have yet to purchase my Non-res MN fishing license for this year, and today I find out its gone up to 40.50 plus 10 bucks for the trout stamp. It seems it never ends.

Yup...no sympathy from me. Time to pay the piper and buck up. Maybe you could lobby WI to lower their license fees to MN non-resident fees???

Its still the best deal around. I have said it before I would pay $100 a year to be able to fish in Mn. I dont think anyones going to cry any tears for ya buddy. Heck you can spend that in 1/2 a night in a bar or by filling half a tank of gas in your truck.

Did I miss something. Two trout stamps. I recently bought a WI. non-res. lic. and told the person that I would be fishing Lake Superior and needed a trout stamp. I believe it said trout/salmon on it (its in my boat covered). Do I need another?

The biggest injustice is the 10 bucks everyone is spending on that WI lake stamp is going right to the south and east, Lake Michigan. For being up here on Superior, we sure don't see much return on that money. I don't know about you, but i don't like paying to stock chinooks in another lake or steelhead in the cesspool that is the Root River. My 10 bucks goes into some dirty boy's freezer every year, what with the put-and-take mentality. How bout some of that lake stamp money come up this way and get some more salmon, or steelhead, or brown trouts. There's enough dang lake trout in here for everyone and their brother.

I agree with DR, not to mention the funds need to stay where they were intended for, not raided to pay for some [PoorWordUsage] program that our bald bozo needs money for.

Yep, sconni is high too, but at least we weren't raping non-res for a shelter tag for portables until this past year.

Doesn't matter what state it is, they keep jacking to fees up and up...

BTW Steve, I don't spend too much in the bars anymore.

Yeah, its money well spent, but that still doesn't make the pill easier to swallow every time it gets bigger.

Good point about the Great Lakes Stamp. Should there be a stamp for Lake Superior and Lake MI? How would guys feel about having to buy for both?

I think a stamp for each lake would be an excellent idea as long as the money for the stamp went to fund projects for that body of water. It would be a great way for each state to insure that they had funds to support a particular body of water and a lake such as Superior could be improved by funds from three states. Lake Mi would get funds from four. I also feel that a "Border" water should be able to be fished from shore to shore with any license from any state that borders it.

Do you actually think that having two different lake stamps would help our cause?! What ever! Just take a good look at the population that fishes Lake Superior verses Lake Michigan. We would never have a pot to pi$$ in when it comes to money up here. The stamp sales are at least triple for Lake Michigan than what they are for us. So for the most part , they are probably supporting us.
And for raising liscense fees, go for it as long as it helps support wildlife and gets more COs out there to patrol certain areas that really need it, like people fishing walleyes out of season or other things like that.

I know what you are feeling Wade. It seems like the price of everything is going through the roof and my salary stays the same!! But like mentioned before, I guess I would pay hundreds of dollars for the privelage of being able to fish all year long. I just try to cut down on my spending in other areas so I can fish more. Good luck this year all!

I have two out of state friends from IL and NJ coming up to fish in three weeks. They also come once during hard water season. They get 8 days of fishing for their $40. I have never heard a complaint. Pretty cheap compared to a launch on Lake Mich or the Atlantic.

I do hear you on costs though. Driving north 6 weekends out of 8 the next two months is costing me about $550. Thank God for free lodging in Superior National.
