Well my opener plans just changed, or should I say were changed for me. I will be heading up to the huntin shack to help with building a porch. I plan on bringing the boat up with me. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good lake. I will be staying close to swanville and would like to find a place close to fish early morning and late night. Also if anyone is looking for a spot to sit I may have an empty seat open.

You could try lady lake, otherwise big swan is usually a pretty good lake for northerns, but you have th check the regs, because there is a slot for pike on that lake, decent walleye population never had great luck for them though.

Big or Little Birch, Big swan and long lake can all be very good on opener. Lots of options in the area and many good lakes, some too small to mention on here.

Agreed! Most of the lakes in the area are small and the locals are tight lipped about it possibly explaining the lack of replies.

O ok Don't want to start one of those wars. I will hit the books and do some research on the DNR website. If anyone would like to point me in a good direction my email is in my profile. I have been looking at big Swan but Grampa says its been a bit slow as of late.

I have fished the area for 20 years (born raised but now live in Pequot Lakes)Big and Little Birch, Long lake and Sauk Lake great all around lakes for everything, Swan however has always treated me better for numbers size of everything. Lady is a panfish/bass/pike lake with difficult walleye fishing. I would fish Moose lake before it anyday. I most often pulled cranks opener till ice for eyes and could always catch eyes on one of the lakes. Usually one is better, trick is finding it and not wasting time on the other lakes. Stick to weedy drop offs and pull #5 shads in perch over the top of the weeds on all the lakes and you will catch pretty much everything and be able to figure out if it is worth live baiting or something else. I did this for 10 years and usually could get something figured out in a couple days or less.
