Rum just wont stop rissing. The creek in the yard has been flowwing backwards for a week. Normaly we peak about a week after Millacs opens. Mabe the dry week that is forcast will bring the level back down, but man o man sure is high.

Any one north of Isanti seeing levels going down? Normaly I spend a couple of hours on the river opening weekend, but I think I will skip it this year.

I was down to Rice Creek in Fridley in back of the Locke House last Thursday. Never even got near the river. it was over the bank and flooding 50 feet into the woods. No chance to wet a line the creek and river were boiling through that section and I do mean boiling!

I have not seen it this bad, this late in the year since the 1960's when the river flooded all those homes along the river north of Osborne.

I won't be fishing that stretch for a few weeks I figure. I don't know where I will be fishing on the opener? Everything is so high! Maybe I will wait until the next weekend. I want to fish the pool about the Coon Rapids Dam but I don't want to launch my 14 foot Alumacraft into something that wild and crazy.

thats nuts dude...

it'd be a heck of a sight.. when I was down there last the only part that a guy couldn't walk across was that deeper pool just before it dumped in to the river...the rest was between ankle and knee deep and running very gently.

nice little bit of woods though- I went on a friday afternoon, and I was struck by the fact that if I just watched the water or simply closed my eyes I could for a moment forget that I was right in the middle of the city. Amazing what that kind of moment can do for a guy. \:D

Isn't the pool from coon rapids north to champlin "closed to recreation" by the dnr because of the crazy currents right now?

The river here is nuts right now, the flows show it going down, in front of the house from yesterday to today it's come up to a high for the year, over the wall at the house across the river, it was 6 inches below it yesterday.
I don't think they ever close the Champlin launch because of the residents that put their boats on and off. CRD is closed. Where a PFD if you're gonna play out here, things floating and stuff happens fast.

Pay attention to what MSRIVERDOG is saying people. We all want to go fishing but lets think safe here. If the water is too dangerous to be near than go fish a lake till it gets a down a little.

Also, what MS says about a wearing a PFD is extremely good advice no matter what body of water you fish. You, I and everyone else will get on the river in Gods own time not our own. If it is not the time then thank the Good Lord for all your other blessings and stay home. This high water won't last and no matter what, I assure you. a few fish are not worth someone dying out there.

If you must go near the river right now, think safe! I think I speak for everyone here when I say we would all hate to hear someone died in the river right now!

Uncle Kes

Spacebag: No doubt it IS a lot of fun out there in a kayak. Assuming you know what you are doing and have the proper safety equipment. However my comments were not intended to frighten anyone away from the river. They were meant to get people to THINK SAFE. Too many idiots out there who don't use the common sense God gave them and we all know it.

No matter how you feel about them even idiots deserve to live, I suppose! (Not that I did not kick that one around a bit before I wrote it, people!!!!)

Anyway, yeah! I suppose the river can be fun this time of year in a kayak if you know what you are doing, have the right training, and are prepared forit with the right equipment.

I will say this again, everyone! LETS THINK SAFE OUT THERE!

TIGHT LINES!
UNCLE KES

Current is really cruising up here in the Elk River area of the Mississippi.I've seen it higher than right now, but it is way up, that's for sure.

Rockman. Yeah, that is why I went up to Hill City on opener. I would have loved to fish the river but the high water made most of my favortie spots inaccessible. I figure the Rum will be fishable in another week and I'll give the Mississippi another 10 days to two weeks. Water is still pouring down river.
