So, what's the walleye outlook for Whitefish this weekend? I'm planning to fish some raps and jig/minnows in about 1-6 fow. Maybe venture a little deeper during the day. Anyone else gearing up for some time on the chain?

I think pitchin jigs into the wind swept shores or shallow bars is what I will do but maybe first try in the river opening.

Is all the ice out on Whitefish? When did it go out? I will be out there chasing some walleyes? I am bringing the kids along, so what lakes on the chain are the best for crappies? The cabin I am going to is on Dagget. Thanks for any help.

If you are looking for the crappie I would suggest to go into bays and marinas and see if there are crappies in there...this is what I am going to be doing this weekend on the chain.....there are so many nooks and little bays on the chain that all seem to produce nice crappies....Good Luck and if you see a blue and tan 14ft with a 15hp mariner say hi...i will be slowly moving around the lake tomorrow hopefully!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the ice is not off the whitefish chain. The three main lakes have quite a bit of ice as of today 5-8. I would say by Saturday there will still be some large acreages of ice still on, and they may be VERY dangerous depending on the wind. If we get rain on Saturday like they are predicting, it may remove the majority of it.
Good news is that the smaller connecting lakes are all ice free and fishable. Tuesday afternoon when it got above 70 degrees, the crappies moved into the back bays but after two days of cooler weather the temps in those dark bays is down 4 degrees and they are gone again. I don't see them coming back in by the weekend but I may be wrong. If you are after crappies I would be looking at the first drop-off or deeper holes just outside the traditional spawning bays.
The walleyes are still spawning and will probably be for another week. Most of the smaller lakes have water temsp in the upper 40's and the bays are in the low to mid 50's.

When you say there is ice on the main lakes which one are you talking about. I was thinking that Whitefish still had ice, but I figured that daggett, little pine and cross would be ice free. I launch the boat from the dam that is why I was hoping that it was free. Please let me know if that is not true. If so I will have to find another smaller lake for the weekend.

WHen I say the three main lakes I am talking about upper, lower and middle. I would think Little Pine and dagget would be ice-free but I haven't been there. Do not know about Cross.

Anyone have an luck with the eyes on the chain? We only got a few pike. Fished near the channels on Cross and the Pine River area and it didn't look like many were catching fish. Tried mostly jig/fathead or rainbow under a slip bobber around 8-10ft. Did end up with some crappies on Sunday in the bays, the water temp was 58 where I was.

We tried everything and had no luck finding the eyes. On Friday when we were going after crappies we saw the walleyes stacked thick in the whitefish to rush channel but when we showed up on saturday mid morning there were non to be found in the channel talked to another boat that got some just after midnight in the channel.
