It has been biting pretty good for about 2 weeks now. Try small red head hook and a small mister twister (grub) near the shoreline.

I just bought a boat, pick it up on Friday...I live a couple miles away in Roseville, I can't wait to slay some crappies!
I haven't fished metro lakes much, does BE get pretty crowded?

BE can get pretty crowded. Especially weekends during the summer

That's what I like about having inlaws that live on BE. I always have a boat available to just jump in and fish out of whenever I want.

Dropped the boat in, she floats!! Water temp around BE was in the mid 50s.

my suggestion would be to try either the reeds sticking up in the middle of the lake by the launch or the creek that dumps in at the southeastern corner for crappies. There's some schools of 100-150 crappies in the creek. Those schools are of smaller crappies (1/4-1/3 pound), but they're still schooled up.
