I have pink foam board insulation as perimeter insulation around my slab on grade home which is very ugly. Does anyone know what I can apply to it as a covering which would be more visually appealing? I was thinking of some type of mortar, but everyone at home depot seams clueless as to what product will work best. Thanks.

If your near a Menards, they have a couple of mixes there which can be put on put on pink foam. Read the directions, as some need you to rough up the foam so the cement product will stick to it.

Some is Brushed on with a Masonry Brush, and some is trowled on in a stucco look.

You could also look at a Coating Called Gray shield, basically a paint for ICF walls, or Ground Breaker a gray colord FRP board that rivets on, or I have seen some guys use cement board tapcon'd into the concrete then seams filled, and painted. A very durable covering able to accept a weed wacker, or stone thrown up against it.

I know what you are talking about and gosh yes, is that stuff ugly. Also, it shouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight.

I don't know what kind of siding you have.

My house has cedar siding. I have pink poly covering my slab also. I attached a cedar 1x3 below the bottom row of siding. Then I dug down about 2 feet and attached another 1x3 cedar furring strip. Then I nailed vertical siding to these furring strips. It took a while to do this and it's tedious work. Well worth it, tho.

I think it looks cool on my place. But, depending on your siding it may or may not look nice on yours.

Here's what I'm talking about.

Closer up

Good luck to ya.

we used a product (we call it ground breaker) that is a fiberglass. its in a roll, like tin and has a texture like masonite siding. we put the stuff before the vinyl and used sheetrock screws to the OSB. then shoveled dirt to hold it to the house on the bottom

Why not decorative blocks, retaining wall bricks, just to cover it and create a ledge around primiter

The foam needs to be covered or the sun will rot it! The sun breaks down foam bigtime! On my slab on grade home I have 2" foam all the way around, and I took and bent up some coil stock to cover, and slid the upper lip under the siding and the lower actually goes into the ground.

basically an L shape with an added break to it Like below.

Thanks everyone. I found a product called glass steel liner which comes in a 50' roll. Will I need a piece of flashing to tuck under the siding and then over the top of the glass board? If so, do I just apply some glue to the flashing and push it up under my vinyl siding?

Depends on type of siding,You would pull the bottom most nails slip flashing up renail. If its vinyl siding theres a nailed on started strip, you have to remove 1st siding piece bottom, remove nails in started strip then slip flashing up and renail starter, with vinyl siding its a hassle with any other its fairly easy.

I completed the project last night. I was able to install without removing any siding. Looks 100% better.
