Hey guys rookie fly fisherman here looking for some advise. I plan to do some fly fishing on inland trout lakes this summer and I'm wondering if anyone has any advise on type's of dry fly's (color and type) I should look into getting and when and where to use them also are nymphs worth trying on inland lakes (sorry if that's a dump question but I'm still learning) and if so what type of leader material do I need for that.

Hi Jellio

I have a dandy book:

Cordes & Kaufmann (1984) Lake Fishing with a Fly, Frank Amato Publications, Portland OR

As you can see my edition is "older". But it is still the best I have seen on the topic of lake fishing for trout. It does have a bias to Mountian Lakes (i.e. out west in the Rockies etc.), but the aquatic environment is very similar here, especially in Northern MN lakes where it is deep and rocky. I would think you could get one from Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com. Or if you don't wish to buy one, check your local public library for this or similar books. They can also do Interlibrary loans for stuff they don't own.

WARNING: from and old guy to a new guy- Fly Fishing can get addictive in a hurry, then you will be spending all kinds of time and money on it. Might want to warn your spouse if you have one.
