What would be a good book or video for someone interested in building their first rod? A class would probably be ideal but I don't see that happening for a number of reasons. Your information is really appreciated.

There's a ton of stuff online to look through. Just do a search and you'll find a few really good sites, that I can't mention on here.

As for books, I'd recommend Rod Building Guide by Tom Kirkman. I'd also recommend Handcrafting a Graphite Fly Rod by L. A. Garcia, mainly because you can find it for "free" in many public libraries.

A good video that covers the basics is "Custom rod building with Doc Ski". If not avaiable at your library or local sporting goods store try that title in google.
