Hey guys, I'm heading out to Tonka to night fish it, because I'm scheduled at Gander until 7:30. I plan on getting out around 8:30-9, and I figured i could catch the end of the evening crappie bite, then shoot for some walleyes. I thought I might as well ask though, how's the evening/night fishing on Tonka for pike? Probably going to be getting out too late, but I don't have much experience with them on Tonka, any advice? Or should I just stick with the walleyes and the crapps?

I would assume you'll have to skip the walleye/northern search until next saturday!

Fished last nite in a small league tourney for crappies on Tonka, all boats weighed fish with varied results. Mostly males that came in , largest was 1.2lbs. I agree with tisosy11, I would wait til 10th for the northerns and walleyes. Did see DNR and Water Patrol out on the lake last nite. They are out checking people already. And not all bouys are in yet either so be very aware of your depths and where you are, would hate to lose a lower unit so early in the season.

Tonka is a very good pike lake, but at that time of evening I'd stick to the crappies and the walleyes in particular.

Depending on where you launch, and assuming you're talking opener weekend, if I was looking to pass a couple hours in the evening I'd look at some trolling with cranks or pick a nice point with a rise from 14 or so up shallow or a reef and cast some suspending cranks.

Good luck!

I'll prolly bobber fish for walters on opener around dusk and chase pike during the day. I have just the spot in mind
