Does anyone know if there is road access in to Shoal, if so what kind of landing?

Shoal Lake Road runs south off of the Trans Canada Highway (#17) approximately 2 miles east of the Ontario/Manitoba border. Paved most if not all the way in. Then further east on #17 and again turning south is the Rush Bay road which accesses Rush Bay and Clytie Bay. Both well traveled roads with fancy cottages and good boat launches.

You can put your boat in at Kenora or Clearwater Bay and drive your boat into Shoal with a 10 -15 minute boat ride. I ride in from Kenora by boat because it takes longer to trailer to the lake and the distance is shorter by water.

I'll say that Shoal is part of Lake of the Woods. There are muskie in there. Shoal Lake is closed to walleye fishing though. You cannot targewt them. If you catch one you must change your presentation. If you catch more you must move. There are no published charts for Shoal Lake and there is ' a Ton ' of reefs sitting 1 - 3 ft below water. Take extra care when going out on Shoal.

Thanks for the info HooknBullet. Are there good cabbage weed beds, or mostly rocks.

Both. Weeds in the back of most bays and lots of chunk rocks. You might find a bass or two. I'm in there all the time. Are you thinking of trying it?

We are thinking of trying something different. Been going to Minaki for years and fishing has really slowed down last 3-4 years. Maybe do some day trips on Shoal, Dryberry, Manitou, and Eagle.

I live on the Winnipeg River at Millar Rapids. Ya the fishing has not been consistant the last few years. I think that the near record high and near record low water levels over a three year priod had alot to do with it.The walleye and pike fishing has been very good lately though. In fact, with the limit restrictions imposed a few years back no one is fishing the river anymore or at least the boat traffic is minimal and the walleyes are bigger and more numerous. Let me know when you get here and I'll help you out. My contact info is on my website.

With gas prices the way they are we are not sure if a trip will happen this year. No plans made yet, probably just wing it.
