I have a four piece fly rod and after a day of fishing, sometimes the pieces will stick and requires extreme measures to separate.

Just wondering how some of you guys deal with this?

That can be a real problem. Rubbing the male half of the ferrules with paraffin a few times a year will usually help.

I have a simple fix that I've used ever since I started fly fishing, just use the oil from your nose or behind your ear. Works best the less you shower. I have never had a problem with my four piece getting stuck.

I do the same thing..... rub the side of my nose. It's big and oily enough to lube my truck when I'm done with the ferruls

I agree with turiprap, paraffin. I’ve heard some bad things about using “body” oils as they attract dirt as I’m sure wax does as well perhaps to a lesser degree, but the point is; dirt on the ferrules is a bad thing.

If they do become stuck and you’re afraid to put some serious muscle into it, pack the ferrules with ice and wait about 10 minutes, then give it a try, it’s worked for me.

Paraffin or a light greasing with petroleum jelly will work. Bear in mind Not to use this in cold temperatures as the petroleum jelly gets very stiff. And when I say a light coat I mean just that. You want to put a watertight barrier between the sections that will not cause them to adhere to one another not give your rod a grease job!

Paraffin is best after that petroleum jelly will work.

"Nose oil" (Man, there's a trademark name just waiting to be registered)is probably fine for graphite or other synthetic ferrules, but I'd caution against using it on metal ferrules. As Magneto said, it can attract dirt and it also tends to be acidic enough to affect metal.
