As opener is approaching very soon just wondering if i should be worried about ice still being on the lake next week, in particular on Little Long Lake, if anyone has an update on that lake in particular i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Yep, Frank that does not look good. I have two day use permits for that first week as well, over on the other entry point...

do others agree that we will be in "post spawn" conditions?

when do the walters spawn?

are they tougher to catch post spawn?

thanks,

mike

Folks, we had three threads going at the same time asking about ice out in the Ely area, so I merged them all into this one.

Let's keep the Ely area ice out stuff in this single thread so folks don't have to go hunt all over.

Thanks guys!

not looking good I went out to lake one and ran into two guys checking ice conditions for the forest service, and they said all the lakes they checked had too much ice for their chain saw to get through. One spot that is open is fall lake from the access to newton falls.

rofl. when i called the resort at lotw, i asked the lady if ice will be gone by opener. I am sure she thought,"let me check my crystal ball."

fishkid, are you in a current area or is the water pretty dead there? Even if it's slack water, 15 feet of water between ice and shore means ice-out isn't likely TOO far away.

I've been in Iowa for the last week. Hopefully that explains why I checked ST's web cam link. Duh!! It's almost 9pm!

Water is so high here and in Ia. there hasn't been ice for quite sometime. No mushrooms either though.
