I did very well with crappies in the winter (as did alot of people). How is it in the spring? Looking to stay close to home and take my boat out for some pannies.

JB, dont know how the crappies fared, but was out there today and Owasso got a decent winterkill. Lots of smalle bluegills and large bass, biggest bass i found dead was 21", smallest was 16". Here are a couple of pics:

It's too bad, but I have seen similar winterkill at many of the lakes around Owasso. It's odd that I only saw big dead bass, no little ones. I wonder if these bass are at the end of there life cycle and the hard winter finished 'em off?

Oh well, it's all part of the natural cycle of things and might be good for the overall fish population.

I think that will be a plus for some bigger bluegills... Usually winter kill of the smaller gills will allow the medium sized ones to grow larger faster because they have less competition for food. Too bad on the big bass though, those looked like some really nice fish..
Later,
Ryan

Isn't there a park by the small little bay on the otherside of the railroad bridge that you can access from shore?

JB, I've tried that little bay a couple times & haven't had any luck. Either the crappies don't use it or my timing's been off (very possible). Only from a boat, though.

I have caught crappie casting from the north shore by the launch, especially if you can get as far as you can to the right of the beach.

last week, that pond area by the railroad tressel was packed, I counted 59 people back there. Catching and keeping paper thin crappies and sunnies...

I was back in that little bay last friday and the water was dirty and muddy compared to the rest of the lake. Lot's of big carp rolling and jumping around back there. Not much for fishing though. Maybe half a dozen little sunnies and a couple dink crappies. Had seen guys casting spinnerbaits and buzzbaits around too...of all the lakes to be an idiot on!
