Except when said pitcher trys to field the [PoorWordUsage] bat thats spinning just to the left of him.
Thought Nathan was looking for a little injury break...can't have him chasing bats like that!

baseball tonight did a bit on the increased number of broken bats the other night.
the maple bats are the ones that when they break the barrels end up in the outfield. they said that because maple is a denser wood, they have to dry the snot out of them to get the weight of the bat down to players preference. and the drier the wood becomes, the more brittle they become.
they had some suggestions of how the problem could be addressed: 1. ban all maple bats 2. put a protectice sleeve on the handle 3. regulate the thickness of the handle

Bats break, its part of good pitching. Get good wood on it and it won't break!

I agree Amish, I saw this story on Baseball Tonight and on Yahoo as well. The research sounds pretty convincing that the maple bats are the ones that are shattering. I would not want to be on the other end of a splinter like that!!

They should go to aluminum bats then...those will break less often.

I hope you are kidding tisosy (tough to tell in a forum setting). Injuries and home run numbers would skyrocket and this would not be good for the game.

Ha yes, i was kidding. We could give the pitcher and corner infielders catcher gear...
That would make it safer for the fielders!
