How do you think this cold weather and late ice out will affect the bite on opener?

Doesn't really matter what the bite will like, what matters is that we'll be there.

Last year we went the week after the opener and had good luck using nite crawlers...all kinds of fish were biting. Not sure about the opener.

Is there normally boat traffic on the river or just shore fishing? Any idea what the water temps will be on the opener? Just trying to make a game plan. Thanks

Fish shallow and fish small. No bigger than say 1/16th and I would not be afraid to go down as far as 1/64th even. Vertical jigging would be the best presentation in my experience. This is going to be very similar to ice fishing, only the ice will be floating by your boat in many cases. So downsize and you should be alright.
I will be fishihg one of my Grandfather's old favorites "Hill Lake" up near Hill City. In fact I am writing this from the cabin I am staying at using my portable computer. We came in for Lunch and some of the guys are taking a quick nap now. You know what it is like when you get old.
We caught a few eyes and some bonus perch and a few nice sunfish. Enough for a fish fry (The perch and sunfish) tonight.
Anyway, just thought I would drop you guys a line and I hope all of you are thinking safe out there and are wearing a good PFD and have plenty of warm clothes on hand.
Have a GREAT OPENER, guys! Enjoy, Think Safe, and catch lots of fish!

Report for past weekend:
Saturday, miserable. Lots of hammer handle snakes and bass on lake 10. Sunday morning, more of the same. Hit all the traditional spots. Finally found crappies in 11 FOW on Sunday afternoon. the fish are typically in 7 to 9 this time of year. The next two weekends should be good to go, if the heat stays up.
