I just looked at the Mineesota Climatology site and it is saying that Rush is partially open. I would think this wind and rain should finish it off. I was thinking of heading out there myself this weekend. Sounds like the weather is going to be [PoorWordUsage] though. That first calm, sunny, warm day we get is going to be the ticket. Those are call in sick to work days. Good luck if you make it out this weekend and let me know how you do.

I was just by there this morning at about 5:30. The only remaining ice that I saw was directly in front of the W. Lake access. The rest of West appeared to be open. The ice in front of the access was in rough shape and I would assume that after this rain we had it will be gone real soon.

Fransen Park appeared to be completely open.

Rush is open. Took the kids to Frandsen and cought a few crappies. Water is pretty cold yet and it was pouring rain so we didn't stay long. No boat activity as of yet.

Any one been out in a boat? What is the water temp? Thinking of heading out this weekend if the weather is OK. Not looking good though.

Fished Frandsen after work in the wind and rain. Crappies were active. Did well with a float and collarless jig tipped with Gulp but doubled the action with the fly rod. Nothing big all between 7"-9" and released.

45 degree water on the main lake on the west side with 49 up in the northern bay by the park which was the warmest we could find on friday.

A CO was checking people in the park on friday.

I actually told you wrong. Instead of Gulp it was Berkeley Powerbait Power Honey Worms (natural color) that I was using. Although I do normally use the Gulp red maggots. I like the smaller profile and color contrast they can give especially on a blood hook. I was actually surprised I had the success I did with Honey Worms. The only other time I've done good with them was with the perch under ice, but the Gulp red maggots are definately my active fish go-to bait.

Fished Frandsen again Mon night. Action wasn't as hot maybe due to the presure. This spring has been my first experience with Frandsen Park. What a zoo! The only thing I could compare the fishing to is at the Sportsman shows where you pay $2 to fish with your kid in the trout pond. I saw several different groups of poeple going home with 4' long stringers filled solid full of crappies. Granted they may be within the legal limit, but I just can't help to think how the lake might be different if there wasn't this mass fish hoarding in the spring.
For the record I love to eat fish as much as catching them but for some there's just no concept of conservation.
