Was in the Aitkin area over the wkend. Heard a lot of drumming. Saw quite a few drumming logs on a brush busting hike into the Speckled Alders on Saturday. Saw 1 on Saturday and 2 on a Sunday hike.

Anyone else hearing drumming, or seeing birds?

Seen birds moving around in N Otter Tail, haven't heard many drumming. Maybe all these Turkey's keep'em quieter, I heard and seen alot of Tom's. Last week I saw two Tom's with thirty plus other turkey's.

There definately has been far more drumming this year around here and I've seen quit a few grouse this spring.

Good to hear that the birds are out. Did the snow get a bad crust over it this year in the bemidji area?

The coverts I hunt had good snow for birds in Dec. Here's a pict of a roost I saw. Tracked this one to the top of a ridge overlooking a swamp where it had taken flight. Never saw the bird. This one went into the log book as another Gohst.

not being a great contributor to the forum here,(but I do check in on it now and then ) I spend most of my time in the "Photo/Birding" area...but I thought it would be nice to share some grouse images with the FMers..... these images were taken of grouse on drumming logs the last week or so up here near Hibbing...I've noticed a ton of drumming activity up in this area...only problem is is that they stop drumming as soon as they spot you! ...still nice to get a few images of them!...just beautiful birds!....

taken this morning:

taken earlier this past week:

taken during one of our last snows:

and from 2 weeks ago:

They were drumming at 5:00AM this morning. Before dawn! It appears number of drummers is strong.

Here in Northern Wisconsin, they are drumming quite well.
It's good to hear them.
