For our final in my Aquatic Ecology class we have to go do research on the macrophytes and macroinvertebrates (weeds and aquatic insects) on Lake Okoboji. We're staying at the lakeshore research lab on West Okoboji and my professor told me that if I got my work done I could do a little fishing that nite... The lab is in Little Miller's Bay, so I was just wondering if there were any good chances in that area to get my first Iowa walleye... Regardless of size, it would be released, but I'd really like to prove my classmates wrong since they dont think I can catch an 'eye out there! Any suggestions would be great and much appreciated!!

The walleye season is currently closed on the Iowa great lakes and will reopen may 3. You can however fish several other lakes in the area. Silver Lake in Lake Park is traditionally a good early spring bite but getting keepable fish is sometimes a challenge.

Try the bridges on Upper Gar, Minnewasta, Silver ect the small lakes are open to walleye but still have the 17-22" protected slot. Just make sure you cast on the south side of the road at Triggs into Gar and not into East. The bike bridge and Sawmill on Minnewasta can be great at night.

Hey I appreciate the help guys, and it works out that the weekend we're up there is the 3rd and 4th so the season will be open... Sorry I woulda mentioned that sooner, but we finalized the dates just recently! Thanks again for the help!
