Hey guys,
Does or has anyone fished the Springfield area that could offer up some quick advice on which lakes to fish for crappies/bass?

My brother-in-law is buying a boat and would greatly appreciate any help yall could offer. I actually live in Dallas, TX and am getting him HOOKED (pun intended lol)on fishing.

Thanks guys!

Doop,
I have fished this area for the last 17 years or so. Springfield is my home lake. It is a decent bass fishery, and the crappies are recovering. What size boat is you B-I-L getting? I ask because some of the lakes have motor size limits. Lake Springfield does not, but it does have a 35 MPH limit. Most lakes in the area charge a fee to launch. You can buy annual stickers at most as well. Let me know if you have some specific questions. I'll help out any way I can. BL

BL,
That's awful nice of you and I'm sure he's going to be very grateful. He is new to fishing and honestly has done very little of it...so I've been trying to help him out and get him started. He and my sister (they have 2 girls and a boy ages 2-6) live very close to the lake so I told him I try to gather some info for him. He is getting a 17' 2002 Starcraft with a 90 hp yamaha.

I did notice that Sangchris lake (sp?) has a motor restriction but didn't know about Springfield's mph restriction. I suppose that's good....does that lake get busy with recreational boaters?

I also noticed there are walleyes in Springfield....is there a fishable population?

I don't have many specific questions as of yet....but I do greatly appreciate your willingness to help out! If you'd like to email me that will work better.

Hello Bill
I was wondering if you could point my brother in law in the right direction on Springfield? He is looking for crappies. He went out yesterday and I told him to look for them in the shallows spawning. Not too sure how he did though. Any advice on bait or locations would be much appreciated!
