Horseshoe Lake Chain Tourney Schedule
by Tom Herman

The Horseshoe Lake Chain by St. Cloud will be site of the fourth of eight FishingMinnesota.com Multi-Species Tournaments. We will be launching from the Cold Spring access on Saturday, July 14th, 2001.
for directions.

Times will be 7 am to noon, an hour lunch break and then 1 pm to 5 pm. This is open to anyone who is interested. All teams must be at the access by 6:30 am for a rules meeting and to make sure we get all the paperwork handed out on time.

Designed For Fun
This tourney circuit will be an “Average Joe” type event, designed more for fun than the typical high-pressure, high-stakes tournaments that most people are familiar with. All skill levels will be represented, from the weekend angler to the guide.

Here is what one particpant had to say:
"Hey guys, I have to say that I was a little apprehensive as this was my first FishingMinnesota.com tourney. What a blast! I wish I had started fishing them from the beginning.

To anyone who has thought of fishing in these tourneys, but hasn't, I encourage you to do so. Unfortunately I have to work on the days of the next 2 but after that I'm going to rearrange my schedule to fish the rest. It was nice to meet everyone so that I can finally put a face with a name.

Gullguide, thanks for the honorable mention. Hats off to Scott for locating a pattern that worked for him and coming in with some nice fish. I will catch up with you guys on MilleLacs."

The tournament schedule will be set up in a team format of which participants will organize their own teams of two anglers throughout the series. Entry fees for each event will be $20 per team per event. Teams will also be competing for points towards an end of the season championship on Leech Lake where the top 30 teams will be invited.

Multi Species
The circuit is designed to promote all-round fishing skill, thus the multi-species format and the variety of lakes that are on the tournament trail. Relying on one species to win these events might not get the job done; in fact, it is quite possible for a team to out fish the rest of the field by getting into large bluegills and crappies. The tournament is also a catch and release event. Teams may bring their catch in to be measured or they may find another team to verify their catch on the water.

The fourth stop on the circuit has fantastic numbers and size of most species, which should make for some good scores. The chain is a very diverse body of water.

The event will start at the Cold Spring access at 6:30 a.m. with a mandatory rules meeting, with the take-off at 7 am on Saturday, July 14th, 2001. The contestants will fish until noon p.m., when they must return to the starting point to have their fish measured and then released. The field then will take a 1-hour lunch break and then re-start at 1 p.m. and fish until 5p.m. when the final scoring will take place.

Hope to see you there!!
